Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I just found a used set of coils and silver bilsteins from a 2012 FJ to replace the 200K mile X-reas setup on my 2003...I got a about 1 1/4" in the front and 1" in the back. Haven't driven much, but the ride is nice...more stable than the Xreas, but not harsh.
I gotta figure out how to do the same thing.

5100's and new 2014 FJ springs from dealer. Slotted Dimpled rotors from Brake performance, 2011 4 Runner wheels, and KO2's. The Brake Performance rotors with the upgraded ceramic pads from them are really nice.

The ride is fine. Freeway speed manners are not so great. I doesn't track as straight as it did. Slam on the brakes at 75mph and you need to be ready to keep the truck on the road. It was not that way before. Not sure if it's the KO2's or what? I did have it aligned after the springs and shocks were installed by the shop that did the install. Think I'm going to have the Toyota dealer do another alignment? Also thinking about moving the fronts to the middle setting on the 5100's. Currently sitting at the 1st setting of .85

Sounds like your ride is now "twitchy" which is a result of a loss in caster. Do you happen to have your alignment printout from the shop? Strange, since you're at the first setting of 0.85", I didn't think you'd be experiencing the loss of caster. Still, upload your alignment #s if you have them.

Speaking of alignment, spring for a lifetime alignment from a Firestone/Mastercase store. Really comes in handy for vehicles that are going through several suspension iterations. Pays for itself after the first alignment IMHO.

What to expect

Hey guys,
Getting ready to pull the trigger on 5100s and FJ springs for all four corners.
Any suggestions for what to set the fronts at to keep a bit of the factory rake? I wouldn't mind it being close to level but if the difference between two settings is either a little factory rake vs higher in the front than the rear, I'd rather have a little factory rake. (level to me is from the running boards)

I'm thinking set the fronts at .85 with the FJ springs, with no extra stuff on the rear (just the 5100s and FJ springs, no spacers or lift otherwise) will allow me to keep a slight factory rake sort of between from the factory and level? Most of the pictures I've seen have rear spacers in so I'm just wondering what I could expect without doing anything to the rear except the FJ springs.

I'm running with the 2004 V8, 4x4.

Get me some thoughts, I'm itching to get this project going!

The rear FJ springs alone wont give you much lift so I think the .85 setting on the front will give you the look you desire.

Just realized I hadn't posted my old setup on this thread.

"Leveled" with front coilovers and stock tires:

Same as before but with rear FJ springs:

My thinking, also.

Where are you sourcing the FJ springs?

Thank you! Your current ride looks insane, I love it. If it wasn't my DD something like that would be what I'd like to do, but I'm looking to keep it mostly practical for now for mileage and daily driving.

Haha, that's what I thought I wanted too. 1"-2" lift with black wheels and slightly oversize tires. It all went downhill after I found that great deal on my used shocks!

The interwebs! Haha, sorry for the obvious answer. I'll probably just go through rockauto, unless anyone knows of a better/cost effective/more readily available option. Where I ultimately buy from pretty much solely depends on how impatient I get to do this...

I have not been around for a while due to many reasons. However, I'm looking for recommendations for a budget lift from stock height to achieve a net of 2" total and leveling out the front. I already have 5100 struts/shocks and KYB strut mounts collecting dust in the garage. I just need springs and possibly UCA's. Currently I am still running the spacer lift that was already on the truck when I purchased it. So with all of that springs is next on the list. Recommend away! Tire size and crap in my sig. Thanks! And if your feeling groggy recommend some UCA's that you've had good experience with.

Moved the fronts up to the 1.75" setting and she looks great. Also added a rola rack and 30" bar over Christmas. Current set up is t12 1.5" coils in rear with bilsteins and moog fj coils up front with bilsteins.
For those waiting to pull the trigger on the Bilstein / fj spring setup , do it all ready. I still haven't looked back.

Sounds like the shop who put your lift in did the alignment right after finishing the lift installation (normal). Problem is that the springs need time to settle (a week) and thus usually "sink" during this break in period. You might be getting bad tracking due to the alignment being done when the springs were less compressed

OK. So I have an 05 v8 sport edition. I've had my FJ springs for awhile now and my bilsteins came in today! I'm trying to move up to 265/70/17 tires but I'm just not sure on how much of a lift I need for them to fit. Would I need a rear spacer to have little rake? Thanks.

You dont need a lift to fit those. I had my discovery a/t3 265/70/17 before I installed the moog fj spring and bilsteins only a small space (a hair) between the tire (when turn) and mud flap. But never rubbed.

I figured it would but I still want some lift on mine. How high of a lift did you do with those tires?

2012 FJ Coils on my 2008 SR5 V6 4wd

Guy in my neighborhood has a 2012 FJ with a sweet Icon lift on it, and he has all the stock TRD Bilstein shock/struts n coils. He did the lift on his FJ with 35K miles on it. So a couple questions:

Would those 2012 coils work on my 2008 T4R? (reason I ask is I only saw notes about the 2007-2009 coils were compatible)

What would be a reasonable amount to offer for the coils if they would work?

Would it be worth a shot at buying the Bilsteins with 35K on them?

Right now, I am on brand new OEM replacement Monroe shocks/struts with a Cornfed spacer 2/1 lift.

Any of your experienced input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Danny C *edited to understand about the 2012 FJ coils****

Guys, don't ignore me over here! (not feeling the love at all) haha

So one more try: What would be a reasonable offer to the guy around the corner for his 2012 FJ TRD coils with 35K miles on them?

Just for peace of mind, the coils will fit my 08 SR5 right?

Sorry, I saw your post but was busy then forgot...
They'll fit, although I can't remember if it was the stock or moog coils that had a tighter bottom coil. This made it difficult to get over the bottom coil perch, but it can be done.
Price wise, take-off fj coils go for about $50 a pair.

Right on, Tony t-man! Thanks. I'll see if I can snag all 4 coils for $50.
