Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

Right on, Tony t-man! Thanks. I'll see if I can snag all 4 coils for $50.

t-man I managed to strike a deal on the set of 4 2012 FJ springs with 35K miles for $90. Thanks for the cost reference.

Now for anyone else with some FJ knowledge, basing this question from reading this thread, I'm 99% certain that the Bilsteins off his 2012 FJ will not fit my Runner? Can you guys confirm, or set me straight on that?

Pretty sure there would need to be some grinding on the lower strut to fit in the LCA mounting point of my truck.

Your feedback please?

Hey Guys and Gals,
Do you guys think the rear FJ springs would give my truck too much forward rake? Or do you think it would be just right?

Couple pics for your viewing opinions:

I'm new to the 4runner and am just looking to correct the front sag on my runner.

Has anyone swapped fj coils in the front only?

What all parts will i need to get?

coils, struts, anything else?

The most lift you'll get from the FJ coils

is about an inch. Rake means the rear will articulate more...AND wont squat/wallow under load....which is a good thing

Easiest way is just do the Daystar 1/2.5 spacers if you just want to level it plus 1". Less than $100.

BTW it is not "sagging". They were manufactured that way.

Fj coil swap issue

First off I want to thank everyone for the wealth of information contributed to this forum. It has been a great help.

I had the swap done this week on my 06 4Runner Sport V8. I was able to get a set of coils from a 2009 FJ Trail Edition.
I also installed the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks that were recommended. I've driven the vehicle two days since install and now I have a very noticeable vibration in the front end when accelerating between 50-60 m.p.h. Just wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues. Then alignment is fine and the tires were recently balanced.

Thanks in advance!

If you havent

had the alignment done since the switch id start theresince the 5100 install lifted the front end of the truck.

JRM is spot on... in that every time you make a change to the suspension, especially one that affects ride height, the alignment changes, so you MUST get a realignment. It's not that somehow, someone messes up the alignment, it's that the angles of the suspension geometry change when you change the ride height, and therefore the alignment *will* be off after the change.

This also means that whenever you raise or lower the adjustable height on your 5100 front shocks, you also need to go have your alignment re-checked, because you have once-again changed the geometry of the suspension.

Please have that done first (if you haven't already), it's a very likely cause of problems after a lift.

Also, make sure that the wheels are properly mounted and the lug nuts aren't loose. I just recently changed a tire on my 4Runner, and I noticed that it was possible (at least in theory) to tighten down the lug nuts with the wheel a little off center.... I had to hold the wheel in place as I made several of the lug nuts finger tight, and that held the wheel centered around the lugs and the lug nuts. Then I could put the remaining lug nuts on and tighten them down with the proper technique of tightening the lugs nuts little-by-little in the correct (non-sequential) order.

It's the first time I mounted a factory rim on my 4Runner (instead of an aftermarket rim -- had to swap in the spare which was on a factory rim)... so this was new to me and, quite frankly, it surprised me too.

Just an FYI.

Vibration issue

Thanks to everyone that replied!

The alignment was checked and was in fact fine still. Lug nuts were also fine. I ended up finding a lot of uneven wear pattern on the tire that was placed on passenger front of vehicle. Moved it to the rear of the vehicle and it made all the difference in the world. I suppose I will be replacing a tire sooner rather than later!

For the numbers it raised the front to a level position with the 5100's at .85. I used 2009 FJ Cruiser Trail Edition springs

I'm sure people get tired of answering these questions however just to be completely sure!!
I have a 2008 Urban Runner v6 4x4, my question,
I would like to swap the suspension for the TRD FJ from 2007 shocks and springs can anyone please verify these part numbers.
Front Shock: PTR13-35060 x2
Rear Shock: PTR13-35061 x2
I am having trouble finding the part numbers for the coils from either the TT or TRD.
Lastly, these are all a complete swap without any fabrication correct?? Thanks for the help everyone!

Need advice before install

Hi guys, I'm getting ready to install and need to know if this combination of parts sounds like it would level me out.

2007 V8 4x4
5100s
Moog FJ front & rear

With the Billies @1.75 will I be level? Reverse rake is not an option to me. I need to know if a spacer is necessary to bring the rear up higher.

Thanks@

2004 Sr5 V6 4x4 may be different for V8 but might help you.

Just installed FJ springs with 5100s on 3rd notch in the front. 1.5" rear spacer with stock 4runner springs and 5100s in rear.

It has a slight take to the front but looks level to the eye at some angles.

Pics aren't best quality

I just finished a 2006 V8 with 5100's at 0.85 in the front and Moog FJ
front & rear, and the body looks pretty level. Adding another inch to the front
would definitely cause reverse rake although the fender gap might look
closer to even (sitting level the rear gap is always larger).

Side note: It's definitely true that the rear FJ Moogs do not sit
in the lower spring seats properly without modification. We took about
an inch and a half off the end of each coil (bottom end) to get em
to seat right.

Just completed the Bilstein 5100 and Moog FJ spring lift. You're spot on, the fender measurement is level with the Bilstein front set at 1.75. The body lines look better with a slight rake but I don't care enough to buy and install a rear spacer! And WOW the ride is sooo much better-- flatter in corners and better bump compliance. I'm not the first to say this but it's how the vehicle should come from the factory.

Im sure this question has already been answered in this thread but i couldn't find it with a quick search so i figured i should just ask... I purchased a set of 2010 fj trail teams coil overs and rear springs and they have colour coding on the coils. just wondering which one is meant for the drivers side and which one is meant for the passenger side?

Just put them both on a level surface next to eachother. The taller spring goes on the drivers side.
