#@$%cupholders*&%$#

Aahaa. Scanny your last link was terrific, it had good ideas and products. I did not search amazon, only google, and only found tacky window hangers. I sorta solved the problem last night after sitting in the car for a few hours. I cut a plastic peanut butter jar in half, that gave me the height. Then I cut a wide vertical slot for the cup handle. When the cup goes down its handle hits the console and tips, so I need to create a little shelf for the interior of the jar.
When I'm done I will post a picture with the smiling wife and her cup holder. AND I will
damn sure test the 2015 Limited holders first.
She complained about the seatbelt chime til I started driving right up on the closest sidewalk til she fastened it, so I do have at least one nut left.

Sponge in the jar......
Raises the cup and absorbs the spilt coffee!

Tell her to buckle her seatbelt...or have it disabled.

Done and done!

How F'N bored are we that we are even entertaining this "problem"? lol

Yeah, it ain't like the serious discussions here regarding window tints, best-looking SIDE-treads on tires, how to make license plate lights brighter, how to mod your window switches so that up and down are reversed, how trailer hitch hanging balls affect mpg, and so on.

If the cupholder problem could be fixed with LEDs or a soldering iron, there's be a picture thread with schematics here already.

Exactly my point. Thanks!

there seems to be a lot of lady hating going on in here... :drama:

everybody gets unreasonable about illogical things, no matter how logical you think you are...:boom: i know, it stings but get over it, its true.

to be fair though, cupholders? really?
i happen to love the cupholders in the 4runner because the fit a full size nalgene. to each their own.

To be fair, if it were a wife complaining about her husband doing the same thing I'd say the same thing and/or maybe rib at his lack of maniliness a bit as well. I'm an equal hating anti-humanist. :)

Yep me too. I just don't like anyone regardless of race or gender or political or religious affiliation. You have to earn it....

Exactly my point. Thanks!

Wait, I thought you already had a LED in one of your cup holders.. and isn't there already a schematic for it?

Honestly, get her a travel mug. My girlfriend just got me this and I love it. Keeps my coffee warm for hours.

Find a cup that fits, have it personalized, get yourself one so you match (you don't really have to use it) and you should be good. You have "matching cups, personalized" so you put effort into it to show you care. done

Here ya go...no it's not ceramic but........it fits in more ways than one!

Those are acceptable stock cups, I suppose, but the lids turn counterclockwise to open, how can I mod it to open with hydraulics? And I want to make the logo smaller and rubberized, I want the TOYOTA bigger and in Comic Sans, I want to mount a Baja NutraSweet packet rack on the lid and .....

The cup holders fit a Nalgene perfectly. Therefore I drive a 4Runner. Work desks hold a coffee cup perfectly. Therefore, your wife should stay at work.

I hope the photo is there, it solved the problem to a "t". I did not expect to open such a can of worms, but it sure opened my eyes to the nature of the average user. Many of you posted pictures of the kind of closed top cups I prefer. When she spills (often) I politely say we are in a car, not a cafe. She wanted a RAV4 but agreed to a 4Runner, so why shouldn't I try and eliminate her one complaint?
The above cup holder drops right into the Toyo's rubber ashtray insert, and it holds everything. Problem solved.
