By the middle of May it starts to get pretty warm down there. There's a reason EJS and Cruise Moab and all the rest of these huge group trips happen in April.

By the middle of May it starts to get pretty warm down there. There's a reason EJS and Cruise Moab and all the rest of these huge group trips happen in April.
I can certainly understand that. I got tired of fixing my broken 4x4's again and again. So now I mostly stick to less demanding routes when I do go wheeling, which is not often these days.
This trip to Moab with the TW group, might be doable schedule wise.

April to mid May is definitely the best time to go, if you can avoid the BIG events. Mid May through mid June is manageable for rigs with working A/C. after that if you are from a miserable hot climate you can probably handle it but that's when my Rocky Mountain blood flows and tells me its to freaking hot, and I would rather head up into the hills!!

I've never been out there. Google is telling me the Average Monthly high for May is 82 F and June is 92 F.
I'm cool with 85, let's hope for anything below 90.

So excited for this trip. Small update. My tires and wheels that were supposed to be out of stock form 4WP until the 1st of may shipped yesterday and will be on my doorstep this afternoon.... You could say i'm Giddy. :girl:

Nice and yeah I know what you mean I DD and I will try things but not be a hero and know when to back off.
And sweet hope your able to make it.
Last year it was around the mid 80s. Had a few days it popped into the 90s but for the most part the weather was actually pretty decent. I really used my A/C like three times that trip. But then again, when your stuck without A/C for a few years and in the "Deep South" you can pretty much handle most anything lol

Utah summer heat just too much for ya, aye??? Not that much cooler in the valley around that time either. Personally I think basing a trip off the temp is an excuse. It's like saying I am not going ice fishing until it warms up more.

I was confused at first, thinking uh, Moab is a town, but I think you're asking from where they are camping at area BFE? The turn off is about 15-20 minutes south of town. Probly 30 minutes to exactly where they are camping.
FWIW, the humidity is generally very low. So it's not as uncomfortable as, say, 90's with high humidity.

This is very true. Dry heat is way easier to deal with.
Plus the KOA is on the way to town and have showers you can use for I think like 5 bucks.

Here in CA no one can close a trail for a private event. Does no one say F-it and ignore their signs.

EJS isn't really a private event anymore. The Red Rock Four Wheelers who run the thing work very closely with BLM and private land owners to regulate what trails are open and when. Some of them are closed to prevent interference with sanctioned EJS trail runs (which the event pays for), some of them are closed to prevent overuse, etc.

None of the trails we saw were 'closed' closed. The roads were open, but their giant yellow signs they put up kind of made it clear that you'd run into issues trying to run those same trails. Didn't bother us this trip fortunately. Kind of a bummer that the BLM will close trails through.

Also do you ever worry about campsite theft? Is that much of a problem?

I dont know if anyone is coming with mountain bikes but there might be. and we will be staying at area BFE. We didnt have a problem with theft last year. We are away from everyone in town so pretty safe
