dude, i'm glad those videos are helping people out! i have the pleasure of working with timmy the "toolman" on these sweet vids
question: you did wonders with your polishing..
did you compound then polish? or the polisher does all the work with the right product?
any tips of tricks to achieve this? and suggestions on entry level polishers/pads?
i have a little oxidation above the rear quarter panel window i'd like to address before it gets "out of control"
Are you the infamous "Sean?" And yes, big thanks to you and Tim. I wish we lived closer we could a video together on polishing. I've wanted to do one, any tips for that? Editing software you guys use, camera?
Also, speaking of YouTube videos. Check out "thejunkman2000" channel. He has a beginner series on machine polishing. Start with episode 1 and take notes! Absolutely fantastic eli5 breakdown of how it all works. From claying to compound etc.
So, believe it or not the truck still has work to be done. I need to wet sand the hood and roof to really pull some of the harder stuff out of those panels. But as for the rest, the polish I used in those posts took the oxidation off with the orange pads on the 5 speed setting with a 2-4 overlapping passes.
Came right off. Now granted I really do think a lot of that is because I have single stage paint. There is no clear to deal with or have had fade.
Normally, it's clay, compound, polish and then seal. But the key is you need to test a small section to see what works. In my case the polish worked fine to remove the oxidation so I started there. If it hadn't I would have gone with the compound. If that doesn't work like with the hood, you have to bust out the big guns like a random orbital machine which I don't have or wet sand...which I've done with headlights! Lol
Can't go wrong with the porter cable 7424xp. As far as pads, I love chemical guys hexlogic pads on Amazon. Just get an assortment. The yellows are for compound, orange for polish and then red for wax/sealant.
