Deactivating the auto un-lock feature?

I really want to turn off the "feature" of my vehicle unlocking when I shift into park. My local Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $50! Does someone know how to do it?

You should be able to program the key fob for that, if you have one. On the 2012's this is possible, describes how to do it in the owner's manual. You might check there for a solution for your model.

Pretty sure what he wants can only be done with Techstream software and a OBDII /USB cable.
The only thing that can be programmed by the fob is "one touch" unlocking of all the doors on a Limited that I know of.

If your local to Dallas I can do it for you as I have the software now.As noted the software is cheap with the cable to buy on feebay.
 
I know in one of my Ford's (06' F-150 FX4) you following this annoying but entertaining procedure to deal with the auto lock/un lock feature. You have to turn the key on then off then on, hit this x times, hit that x times, turn the key wait x seconds, back on, hit this wait a x seconds for a confirmation beep. You know the guy who created that sequence sits in his cube everyday laughing thinking about people fumbling and messing up. I had my dealer fax over the sheet with the instructions for it. Of course technology has advanced, but I still wonder if there would be a 'manual' way to do it in the 4R

You can program this yourself. A trip to the dealer is not required for what you're asking.



On 2010, you can reference the procedure here:

It's on page 54.

It should be the same for 2011/2012 as well.

I stand corrected as it can be done with the lock switch.Doh!
It's in the Techstream software too.

Yep,That's the one and you can turn off the seatbelt chime on drivers or pass seat or both. I bought from a USA based seller and cost a little more but had it in 3 days.

Good find as I don't remember reading that one before!I was thinking key fob programming.

If you need something done just pm me and come on over and you can change what you want. There is alot of other good info to obtain from Techstream too like all the fault codes stored since day 1 and you see the date and time it threw them and clear them out or save them if you want.

I saw on there the other night that it has the real time individual readings for each tire's pressure.I was surprised as I had thought before that the TPMS sensors were like idiot switches and just send a signal that it's good or when it falls below 26.8psi and that there were 4 there.

Wow, that's awesome Gary. I may just take you up on that. I'd love to see all the options, I've never even seen techstream. My Toyota dealer (don davis) doesn't let you back in the shop, ever. I've always been curious (being an I.T. Guy). The TPMS shows ACTUAL pressure? Wow, you'd think Toyota could display that for us. I once had a chevy cobalt rental (some idiot hit my 4th gen) and even IT had the tire pressure displayed. Thanks again!
 
Is the Techstream software difficult to use? My dealer also wants $50 to program my truck. $54 on eBay seems like a no-brainer, provided there isn't a steep learning curve or a high chance that I'll mess up my 4R.

do i understand correctly, you want it to stay locked?
that seems a bit odd, and for me i HATE rigs that auto lock when placed in drive, or after x mph.
can i ask why you want it to stay locked?

Very easy, did my TE , Tundra Crew Max and a 2012 Camry we just picked. I paid 32 bucks for the cable and it took 2 weeks to arrive. Plus you can pull and clear codes with it.

I don't know about him, but I can tell you that I changed this on my truck too. I don't want it unlocking automatically in PARK because it's a safety issue when my girfriend is driving it. I'd rather it stay locked. Besides, the front doors don't require you to unlock them to exit anyway. It's just safer. I'm sure that's the OP reason as well (if I had to venture a guess).

safety for kids... they can't just jump right out when you put it in park... also safety from badguys attempting to enter your vehicle in say a dark parking garage... call me paranoid but unless they come to my door they aren't getting in and if they come t my door they will be greeted with lead.
