I cannot say that I am suprised.
Have you seen the entire vehicle (in print)? If so, is it a homogenized style?

So after the comment above, are you saying the overall new design is a cheap approach(such as interior/exterior design) or that the part about it "going back to its roots" is the BS part? Just trying to clarify
Also, you mentioned several posts earlier that the trail edition and limited versions will both offer leather in several colors, do you know for sure if the trail edition will have leather available?

Sorry to keep you looking for more information. But did you see if the hood scoop on the sport now is going to be available on any of the versions of the 2010 4r?

I was driving yesterday and saw 2010 rav4 w/o spare on hatch,
the thing looked similar to the diagram of the 2010 runner. tailightslights
are similar style

There's an option package on the RAV4 Sport that deletes the rear mounted spare. It's available on MY 2009.
I'm still surprised the 5th gen is right around the corner and Toyota is suppose to retool their plants, yet no one has seen any pictures of have concrete info of what it is.

I have seen actual pictures of it and Franco is pretty accurate with everything.
I am sure Toyota will release info fairly soon.

catalog, toyota really went cheap.
when i worked at toyota, i had recently bought my 05 v8 4runner
and was speaking to the toyota manufacter sales rep and his exact words where
"u brought the most expensive runner ever made" ask why and he explained
that the 06-09 cost less to make.
The 4th in genral is the last of the real toyotas
catalog, toyota really went cheap.

Thats a bummer. I was hoping to hear toyota went back to making some real well made SUV's. Not that my 2006 is a poor vehicle, but the interior could use some higher quality materials and I was hoping the 5th gen would solve this.
Kind of dissapointing to hear.....maybe after seeing one will change my thoughts.

It's more FJ-ish, with a bit of the styling that they incorporated into the Sequoia/Highlander. I wouldn't say it's "back to it's rugged heritage" but it doesn't look bad.
Also, the ground clearance decreased from what I could see, so I don't know how Toyota considers that "back to it's off-road heritage."

That is what I have read, in addition to being wider and longer as well.
That seems to be the trend with most newer SUV's: lower, wider, taller, longer, fatter, etc.
Also, the 2010 Jeep GC and the new Ford Explorer will be independent suspension all the way around. I wonder if Jeep will still boast the new GC as being "trail rated"???

Probably. A guy on 120 went through the Rubicon and saw a team from Jeep pulling through a prototype Jeep. Not only was it in pieces, but they cheat because they welded on sliders which do not come stock. So those trail rates badges don't mean a whole lot, unless you don't mind your jeep coming out in pieces.
The overall clearance didn't get much lower. If I remember correctly, it was the gas tank that hung much lower. Seems like a large vulnerability. BudBuilt and other skid makers might make some good business off of these 5th gens.
Well that's not good especially since the standard tires on the 5th gen are now 265/70-17 which would provide roughly a 1/2" extra ground clearance compared to the 4th gens 265/65-17 stock size. I thought I read somewhere though that the ground clearance on the 5th gen actually went up slighlty - but who knows where Toyota's marketing folks measure ground clearance these days
