Yeah, the dudes on this trip love their LED lighting.

I'm calling it the LED Mouse-Light Mod. Keeps the rodents away from the wiring.

Dont make random fire rings in the park. Fires are only allowed in designated nps sites. Fires are currently not allowed randomly on the backcountry roads. Thats why I normally dont camp in those spots becuase I like my fires too. We regularly have to tear down those random fire rings people make, and its a big mess from all the unburned material.

I work for the park, so if anyone has questions about the rules I can answer them. Illegal fire ticket is $530


That massive Cairn is a historical mine marker. When the old timers got their mining permit they would make those rock piles to mark out the property of their claim. Pretty cool they are still standing huh!

Good to know about the fire rings. I heard something about it but thought this was just during fire season and not in the dead of winter.

Interesting about the Cairns. We saw many of them as we hiked from our camp that night.

If anyone has some time on their hands and likes reading about dedicated rescue people, here's a good read (not short) about the search for lost German tourists. They disappeared in 1996 and the guy involved stayed with it till he found the answer in 2010. Goes to show you how easy it would be to get lost and never be found if you're not prepared...

Wow! What a read! I had a similar, though not as exciting experience looking for an archaeological dig on National Forest property. I offered to volunteer as part of the dig, but was told "No" several times. So I decided to find it myself. It took me 2 years of covering about 20,000 acres of forest land, but I did find it by myself. I wasn't interested in pilfering artifacts, I just wanted to show the forest service that I could find it.
