Decent sum of money fell into my hands...

Okay guys so I just cashed in a collector gold bullion proof set and netted around $2200. I had to make a couple purchases ($300), pay my girlfriend back some cash ($250), deposited $300 and still have about another $1,200 on me. Basically around $1300. Now... what do I do with this loot? Should I save? I really want new wheels, but can't find anyone who will buy my Limited ones. I could just be patient and wait for those Tacoma rims from one of my dad's work trucks. Here's a short list of things I've been thinking about getting:

1. Hilux Field Monitor
2. Replace TRD transmission cooler
3. Have new speakers installed
4. 883's and 890's ???

Help???

Not sure why you would need to replace your Transmission cooler, unless it got damaged some how.

Looks like you already have a nice audio system so unless you are unhappy with it I would concentrate more on the springs, wheels and Field Monitor.

My vote would be to keep it in savings ear marked for repairs when/if you need any. It would suck to put a lot of money in "nice to have's" and have your 4runner down until you get some money aside to replace a big ticket item. I would save specifically per item and treat the money as not there.

At least thats what my Grandad would have said. I am in the same boat I got my tax returns burning a hole in my pocket as we speak just hope I can heed the same advice.

Of course I am tempted to just throw caution to the wind so I am going to compromise and do a couple smaller mods and keep around 1,000+ in the car repair saving account. I have another older high mileage vehicle that is not a Toyota and I am certain its going to be a problem child in the next 6-12mo's.

my $.02 sents do with it as you will.

when you said "decent sum of money" I was expecting at least 10k. Not to sound like a rich snob because I'm certainly far from it (rich or snob). And I know that 1200 bux is a substantial amount of money. But coming into 1200 extra dollars wouldn't prompt me to think of ways to spend it. Don't you have some credit cards you can pay down or maybe get a month ahead on your house payment?

If I'm not mistaken he's in college. I would say that $2200 is a large amount for 95% of college students.

I'd probably save it.

lol i'm in the same boat as you my friend. Except, I have approx. half of that. People have mentioned some valuable advice and I agree with them. However, I would spend maybe $100-200 on something to make yourself feel better (buy some aux. lights, do a cheap mod, or just give your 4runner a nice detailing). That way a major percentage would go into doing the 'right thing' (read: savings) and you could use a smaller percentage to better your 4runner. It is indeed a never ending battle between spending and saving :vader:

but pertaining to my situation, I am using my money to fix my suspension because it is horrific. I feel every frekin crevice in the road and my speakers continuously come on/off due to the violent shakes (it's like a deaf symphony attempting to play in unison). keep in mind I have money set aside in savings for when --> :happens:

Well I have decent door speakers but one is about to blow so I have $400 worth of new Infinity speakers sitting in my apartment. That's just a tentative list. I'd really like to get rid of my 881's and 906's and swap in the aforementioned springs. The cooler got messed up in the accident and is just sitting on the truck not hooked up, it's still down in Fredericksburg getting repaired anyways. In reconsideration, I think I'd go:

1. Larger lift
2. New TRD Cooler
3. Field Monitor

Where the hell did this come from? $1300 is a good lump of TAX FREE money I just got, like I said I actually originally made close to $2300 by selling just one set of 4 coins that I have. I already have deposited $400 of that cash into my checking account, and laid out where the rest of the cash has gone so far. I'm lucky that my parents set up an extra savings account that pays for my rent, school expenses and insurance. I pay for everything else (food, gas, Internet/Cable, clothes, etc). I currently am unemployed and only have one credit card that I use for emergencies, and rely on a check card. I wasn't looking for a financial analysis here buddy, but thanks anyways. $1300 is a good amount to work with with these trucks, and I've already done most of the substantial work to get my truck to where I want it to be. Feel free to :toilet3: on my recent finacial additions, but I
'm still gonna ask people what to do with it anyways.

theres another gun show coming up in april at the dulles expo center. Go pick up a mossberg 500 for $300 bones. OR you could pick up a rock river arms/ccmg piston blow back ar-15 for $1k.

do it

If you are unemployed then you should definitly save the money for your "just in case" fund. If nothing breaks and nothing needs to be repaired you have some emergency money for other things in life. For example if you can't find a job and you need to pay for unforseen costs. Wait till you find another good paying job and then congradulate yourself and buy some toys.

Should have kept the gold.

Just to be clear: I sold this gold set out of necessity, not out of impulse. I needed to pay for something, and got way more than what I thought the set was worth. Believe me (I apologize if this comes off as bragging, which it really is not), I've got PLENTY of Gohhhllllddddd, and yes it's at its highest value in over 12 years now, I know when profit's been made. Let's just say I have a storage pod or two filled with bullion proof sets that date back to the early 1900's. Just had a little chance to delve into the "vault" so to speak, and now that I've paid for what needs to be paid for, I have a decent amount left over to buy a couple more goodies for my rig.

I like this idea, forgot about wanting to get a handgun. Thank YOU

ok... so you have TONS of gold which means you have unlimited funds for the time being. You should have just said so. Buy anything you want under the sun. Seems to be the right thing to do in your situation.:guitar2: I was under the impression you were a poor college kid which is why I recomended saving. But if you have over $200k worth of gold... then perhaps you could spend a little here and there on toys that you want.

If it were me? And I even had a million dollars worth of gold... I'd still save 99% of it... and invest.
