Dilemma - My 08 T4R or a Salsa Red 2012 T4R TE

I think I'm doomed. I fully expect the "practical" JohnnyT will wake up tomorrow and talk some sense into the "Salsa Red" JohnnyT and I won't be spending $15k for the upgrade.
I'm losing faith in my ability to decide on pure emotion and desire. I wish I had never seen that damn truck.

Mine really turns heads where ever I go, especially with the rims. I was sold on the TE because if I wanted luxury, I would have got a Lexus (LTD) and the SR5 starts to get pricey when you add options on top of the price. Why Navi is still offered is beyond me...it is so much $$$ when you can get a portable unit. Heck, my iPhone has really accurate voice navigation anyways. The new Entune is nice, but I would probably never use it...the XM radio is just fine with me...just my two cents.

Dilemma over.
I couldn't get the truck out of my head. Dealership called me today and did better on the trade. My getting this truck made no practical sense, but still kept thinking about it.
So I took my wife to see it about 30 min ago and she hated it. Hated the front and rear head lights. Hated the interior (said it was cheap compared to my gen 4). Hated the color. Hated the cargo tray. Hated the hood scoop. Out of 10, she gave it a 0.
Having her see it and dislike it somehow made me feel better even though I don't agree on any of her points. I can't do something she's not onboard with.....that's how divorce lawyers stay very busy.
Case closed.
Will wait for whatever gen exists in 3 years when my youngest starts to drive and he gets my oldest's Pathfinder and my oldest gets my T4R.

I think you made the right choice from a practical point of view. Emotionally, we'll have to see down the road. Once I saw the new TEs I considered the same switch, but love my 08 too much to trade. You never know, in 3 years you may be able to find a SR TE for a much more reasonable price tag and it may grow on teh wife as she sees more around town. I try to be conservative and realistic in my thinking when making big financial decisions, but doing this has left me "wanting more" in the past. I finally made the emotional decision to buy my 08 (it was less practical than I had been wanting) and I haven't looked back since. I love this thing and look forward to many years with it.
I have 2 rules when it comes to decisions
1) Ask myself what are the possible negative ramifications of this decision? Are they that much worse than standing pat?
2) Flip a coin. I know this sounds ridiculous, but once you see the outcome of the coin flip you know how you really feel about the situation (weather it makes practical sense or not) Sometimes you just have to go for it. Sometimes you make the right decision and sometimes you don't. Either way, you did what you wanted to do and that has to count for something, right?
Keeping the wife happy is also more important to a healthy marriage, but there is nothing saying you can't throw it back at her next time you want something she isn't on board with :wink2:

Well...... I just ordered a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks from ORW for $330.00 - 10% discount, free shipping, no tax. Give it a little lift in the front and a different feel. That'll make me feel a bit better. Considered a nerf bar too bit I don't think that will look any better than my current stock running boards.
Regarding the 5th gen, it was purely a "Wow thats a cool truck" kind of thing. I had no real reason to get it and part with another $10-12k unnecessarily. My wife worries far more that I do - she assumes everyday I will come home and say I've been layed off or got fired. But that kind of thinking is not farfetched these days. Can happen to any one of us at any time so always be prepared. Thus the conservative approach we've always had still prevails.
What I was also thinking as well was that I could always count on a 4Runners resale value being very impressive...... HOWEVER, I don't see this new TE 4Runner retaining the same value in my area. It is targeted to a very, very small market of people - real off-roaders..... and that's a problem in the resale department. It would be tough to find a buyer in the market that I live in. Colorado, Alaska, Arizona, etc. is a totally different market than NJ.
