I finally got around to tack welding the steering shaft, it’s been on my list for a while but I never got around to it. I figured now was the time to do it before I detail the interior (it’s filthy from metal and body dust), and rebuild the front suspension.
Here is a couple links that describe why someone would do this, and how to do it. The only thing I would add is that you might want to mark the splined section before taking it apart. It only goes back together one way, but it’s hard to see while under the dash.

And here is the driver side interior with Dynamat, seam sealer, and the electronics reinstalled. It’s a tight fit, but it all fits behind the panel!
I was a little worried that the floor mats wouldn’t fit anymore, but they still fit pretty well. I heated up the mat with some weight on it to try and get it to conform a little better. We’ll see how it works.

If you want to add more sound deadener second skin audio has a 40lbs pack 60-90 Sq ft on sale. I just ordered one myself to finish off the 4runner.

Thanks for the heads up! I would like to one day go through and sound deaden all the interior, but thats a project for down the road. I guess we'll see how loud the Irok's are, and if it gets bumped up the list after a few longer trips.
In other news, I've been slowly chipping away at the 4Runner. Relocated fresh air intake is done:
The driver side firewall is tubbed, body mount clearanced, fender cut and round rod welded in, and the holes are filled on the front door.

And all the parts for the front suspension and steering are finally here, I've been collecting parts for a while now:
- Safari LTD steering rack
- Energy Suspension steering rack bushings
- SPC / Light Racing UCA's
- Replacement Lotus CV boots
- Replacement brake lines (Wheelers Offroad)
- Energy suspension LCA bushings
- Total Chaos spindle gussets
- Wheel spacers for the front (there was no way around it, the tires rub the frame like crazy. I'm going to start with one inch and hope that's enough.)

Be careful with the wheel spacers. I tubed my inner fenders with stock wheels. Then when I got wheels with more back spacing (same as wheel spacers) my tire hit in all kinds of places and I had to re-attack some areas. You have done some beautiful work on your fenders, would suck to have to change it up again. I was considering welding onto the lower ball joint where the steering stop is. Then grinding it down smooth to extend the steering stop so that the tires would not hit the frame. Haven't done it yet but I don't see why it wouldn't work....

Your 100% right, but I think I'll be okay with the one inch spacers. I took into account that I might have to run them when I was doing all my work. I still need to test fit one to make sure, but I'm not too worried. I thought about limiting the steering stops as it would be really easy, but I really like how tight the 4Runners turns and I would hate to loose that. I didn't mind the little amount of rubbing I was getting with my old 35's, but these 36" Iroks with the monster side lugs rub like crazy!

Thanks Connor, I will let you know. What brand did you install? I have Energy Suspension, I found this write up that gave me a rough idea of what it's going to take. I was going to burn the bushings all the way out and wire wheel everything to keep it in as good of shape as possible.

Energy Suspension. We followed the same write-up. If you heat long enough on the outside of LCA, the bushing will fall out and you won't have to deal with cutting any excess rubber off, just use a wire wheel and you're good.
