DIY: Changing serpentine belts on the V6 (1GR-FE) 4Runners

I think the hole is part of the pulley swing arm in the bottom. So you pull the tensioner as far as you can, then put a screw driver through the hole and it slots into a second hole behind it, keeping the tensioner out of the way.

Thanks for the help to you and everyone else! But I finally got it over the PS pump pulley with a little bit of brute force. The old belt didn't look too bad but I bought the truck used and saw no record of it being changed (ODO has 124,000) so I figured just change it for peace of mind if nothing else. This forum has saved me so much money. Thanks again everyone

Thanks for this DIY. I will be doing it this weekend. My 07 4runner has about 235k miles and the belt never been replaced. Bought it with 40k miles. It's now showing some cracks.

Thank you for this write up.... I just picked up at local dealership my All new pulleys no.1 no.2 no.2 , serpintine belt,pulley bolts, pulley washers, pulley spacer and added new air filter, oil filter along with new spark plugs.

Now to just get started....

Great write up !!! My serpentine belt is just starting to squeal when I start my truck in the mornings. I have just over 156k miles and the belt still looks good with no cracks, but I think it might be time to change the belt. So I called the local Toyota dealer for pricing, they wanted $120.00 for a new belt and $125.00 to install it. I think I'll keep my money and do it myself.

V6 (1GFRE) with A/C... what is the correct length?

Hi guys, my 2007 Sport Edition (V6 with Air Conditioning) just blew the serpentine belt. Are the correct dimensions 83.50" length, 0.96" width, or 83.96" length, 0.95" width?

Answer: I bought the Gates (theoretically .46" longer), and the tensioner does have sufficient travel "back", without reaching the limit of its excursion. I'll look again after a few hundred miles of "break-in".

Can anyone give me an update on how many miles they went with the bando belt? Are they as good as the factory belt?

Thanks for the Write up!!! Did my wife's no prob. Now I regret not checking the idler pulleys She told me today she smells a burning smell when driving. Any thoughts?

Belt seems correctly installed on all pulleys etc... no squeaks or squeals

Great write-up. I'm thinking about doing this in the near future and was wondering how many people also replace the idler pulleys when replacing the serpentine belt. What are the indications that a pulley should be replaced? Is it a waste of time/money to do this preemptively?
