DIY: Interior LED swap (cluster, HVAC, switches, window, *steering wheel)

Even with a darkie-made LED for my H2/H4/L4 switch, I still have major cold-spots. Maybe if I feel up to taking out my radio trim, I'll see if I could modify the light distribution inside the 4WD switch. I'll save that for a rainy day

The hotspot is inherent with how the light is distributed within the switch itself. I'm taking apart my switch this weekend and try to figure out how to make it work. I have two ideas that I'm going to test.....I suspect it will take a total of 6 LED to have everything lit up evenly.

I found 3mm LEDs with 120-140 degrees of view, would those work better? Just a thought before you go and use 15-60 degree viewing angles on us

I only use the 120-140 degree LEDs so I'm good there. Both options will require you to take the switch apart and modify the light distribution lens.

On my way to RadioShack to get a 9v battery box and pre-wired LEDs!! (but not really)

I wish we could wirelessly transfer power, it would make a lot of life easier. You could just program power to be sent to different LEDs built into the 4WD switch... Oh I can't wait for 5-10 years from now....

I used 3mm soldered in the oem holder. Not sure the wattage, whatever darkie pointed me towards hah.

I've got all the switches and hvac done now. The only place I have hot spots is the 3 main hvac switches. I'm still kind of curious as to why we used flat tops? There was no hot spots with the standard bulb, wouldn't it stand to reason that a normal led would not cause hotspots?

The flat top LEDs are the only LEDs that offer us a 120-140 degree viewing angle, where as the round top LEDs give off a 15-60 degree viewing angle. The flat top just gives us more light-spread overkill to make aiming the damn LEDs easier haha. It's a pain in the rear to aim them

throw me on the list, but i cant go without gauges on my ride for i use it for work and have to document my mileage everywhere i drive, and its my only ride. so once you get the loaners lemme know. i was going to go all blue, but have recently changed all domes and such to red, and like it alot more. thus im going everything red.

Has anyone gotten error e01 on there hvac display (where the mpg should be) after plugging their cluster back in? I reset the ecu and thought it was fixed but after I drove it, that popped back up.. I can't find any resolved threads on it on here. Ideas?

Never had that problem, but I'm thinking, if it went away when you reset your ECU, then came back again, you might have a faulty sensor in your system. Maybe your mass airflow sensor, O2 sensor, or any other is faulty.

Try to find a Toyota error code translator to see what an E01 error is. If not, bring it to a local auto part store that reads error codes, or go to your local Toyota stealership!

Absolutely sir. Check out the neo-4 LEDs on superbrightleds.com. Don't get the HP ones, they won't work.

Wow, it truly looks amazing compared to the stock orange. Good work guys. Really makes it tempting to try for myself. Going from an Acura TL to the 4Runner makes the stock 4Runner orange look very faded and dim.

The stock orange is unbearable. You should swap yours, it makes worlds of difference
