Do I / Can I have factory keyless entry???

Yup. going to wait for an update from [MENTION=170338]ZoneOne[/MENTION]

Called the dealer, provided them my VIN and told me mine has a dealer option security alarm besides keyless entry. They provided me with a part number (PT39807-101).

If you look at the document I posted upthread all is made clear.

Prior to '99, there was no standalone keyless entry; it only came as part of the dealer add-on RS3000 alarm system.

1998 takes a grey fob. 1997 earlier takes a black fob. They are not compatible.

So , all dealer installed units prior to 99 were RS3000 units . At some point over the years someone had commented that dealers were using different brands of alarms , but that's highly suspect . My 98 came with a black FOB , not grey . I'm pretty thorough but have yet to find a box like Zone One's picture of his . The only place in the truck where I haven't really looked is up under the dash / steering column area ( up above it ) . That will sadly require some Exorcist head spinning moves :rolleyes:

So I followed the procedures as outlined on "KeylessEntryRemoteInc.blog"

My first attempt did not work. So I went to the second step and erased all prior FOB memory and then restarted with Step 1. After that it worked, well kind of.

I don't have a chirp and I'm not sure how to even get one, but it's not that big of deal. Additionally, the two button FOB only works with 1 button. Same button locks and unlocks. Press once to lock and press again to unlock. There is not an audible tone and I was so excited that it even worked, I didn't even check to see if the lights flash. Bottom line, is for $30 I can now lock/unlock my vehicle from a distance and that's all I wanted.

The chirp would be helpful and it would also make sense to have the lower button work, but whatever. Maybe someone can "chime" in and help me out. (no pun intended)

Do you have an alarm horn in there somewhere ? I think your chirp chirp comes from it .

Your second button is for if you own a second 4 runner with the same system. Weird I know but that's what it's for. The piezio chirper is a setting that you can program on or off with the rs3000.
 
Have you checked your peizio chirper? If I remember correctly it's located in the engine bay on the passenger firewall or close by that corner.

No pardon needed! I'm learning as I go also.

I'm pretty sure the piezio module it's a separate little Gizmo under the hood. It has wires running to it. It's possible that the wires are cut or damaged or the piezio itself is damaged.
 
Correction...'99 and up the piezo is on the pass. side fender, '96-'98 is on the drivers side hidden near the fuse box. Look for a small red cylinder wrapped with grey foam.

I took a look under the hood and I couldn't find it lol. I'll have to look again when I'm back in town.

The picture menu at Denny's was made for people like me so I'll have to look up a photo sometime to ensure I'm looking at the right thing.

Yeah, since it's a port or dealer installation they might not be in a standard location. Mine is set to "off" and I couldn't find it either! I personally like it off so I don't want to turn it back on.
 
Well I found mine, not sure how to turn it on though as the instructions haven't enabled it.

Mine is wrapped in some old foam and the wires appear intact but who knows.

Could just replace it. An oem it's about $25 but I've read you can get one at RadioShack for $6. Just out of curiosity, where did you find it? I've looked all over for mine.

Found mine between the battery and the fender zip-tied to some wiring.

Reviving an old thread.

I drive a 1997 with factory installed rs3000 under the driver seat. I dont have a for for it and the aftermarket one I had 4 years ago seemed to only work form maybe 15-20 feet away at best even though it was brand new. Is this the normal functioning range for the factory system? I’d love to have it back but not knowing is what’s keeping me from purchasing a remote again. Should i just go aftermarket ? I’d love the rear window roll down feature
