**DONE!!!!!**1988 SAS build - need advice for beginning

I got it now.

Yeah the trail gear kit comes with a frame brace, and they recommend moving the axle forward on the v6 to clear the oil pan too.

The trail gear SAS kit does not come with the steering box plates that they are referring to. The TG classic front lift does come with it tho.

Yeah. Love me some flap wheels. Although I switched back to hard discs to get big chunks to save money. Then finish off with a flap disc.

I have three grinders so I cut down on wheel changes.

I did have questions about how much to take off that upper mount. Half of it is a motor mount right? Do I just take the outer part off and leave the part above the frame?

That's pretty much what I do. I just cut it even with the face of the frame then weld a strip of flat bar to box it off.

Cv axles went to UteRunner, thanks to him for taking them off.

Now I have a front diff, aisin hubs and then brakes and calipers.

What should I list this stuff for locally? Or do I need to keep anything?

Grinding has commenced. Nice cloud in my garage. Have to close the door to keep noise down at night. Mask helps but restricts the consumption of beer.

What ratio in the front diff? If it's 4.30 the ring and pinion are worth a little scratch, nobody makes them in the aftermarket. Manual hubs were going for around $150 a pair last time I checked. If you can get $10 for the calipers, take it :D.

I sold my manual hubs for 125 shipped a month or so ago. People are still paying good money for those. Thats going to be the biggest money maker. Not a big market for 4.10 ifs gears and parts. Haha.

If your new solid axle does not have hubs, you can convert IFS hubs to work on SA for the price of some hub gears.

Kit ordered. Thanks to alljeep.com recommended by kidv. I've got time to get it all ground down and pull the new axle back inside to prep for rebuild.

I like the AllJeep guys. They sell a grip of Yukon and Dana 60 stuff on Pirate, but they're a TrailGear dealer too and not afraid to hook up a local with a good deal. :)

Flap wheels ftw.

They are so expensive for the good ones! Also, HEAVY GRIT flap wheels, like 60 grit. When I'm at work I use the hell out of the flap wheels because I don't have to pay for them, but when I do my own stuff, I try to use the stone discs to get the meat of the grinding done, then do the finishing touches with the flap wheel.

Looking good so far! I havent done a SAS on a first gen yet, but have done a few taco SASs. Id keep the hubs and calipers personally. You can convert to the IFS hubs to widen the axle a bit. Also the calipers can be swapped and works better than the stock solid axle 4cyl calipers. I run the IFS calipers on my pickup and was planning on running the hubs once i build up my pickup more.
