You're losing the idler on the passenger side and you're moving the pitman on the right. They'll do you no good.

Haha. Yeah. The front end was tired. I'm not giving up. Just got a bunch of stuff! This is going to happen, just got to put a plan together on the next order of things to do.

I'm thinking just get right to mounting the front spring hangers. I already took a torch and hammer to the bulge in the frame. Everything looks level. I will need to fill the gap between the spring hanger and frame with something. I have plenty of flat stock for it.

I'm pretty sure my welder will handle this too. I'm going to Load up flux core wire for more heat and even pre heat too.

I was silly to think I'd get it done quickly. But I've got the space for it to sit for a few weeks.

1988 SAS build - need advice for beginning

Came across this while researching. I like the idea and had thought about it, maybe just going in a half inch for my build. Puts the whole hanger flush rather than leaving a 1/8+ gap under the cross member. Thoughts?

Its a good way to get it a little lower, but youll never be able to use an off the shelf bumper. Just make sure you have enough room under your steering box

I like it. Toyota did my SAS for me, but when I get around to rebuilding the stock hangars in front on the '85 I hope to do something similar.

Lower is more better.

Yeah. The guy calls it frenching in his thread on yota tech. At the least I'm going to go enough to close the gap in the crossmember.

You would be better served using a bumper reinforcement plate to fix the gap and strengthen your front crossmember. Unless you just want to go lower.

Perhaps. I'm still waiting on the rest of my kit. I believe there's a reinforcement plate in there as well somewhere. That may solve it, we'll see

1988 SAS build - need advice for beginning

Started on the axle rebuild since I couldnt fire up the plasma for the final cutting tonight. Of course, have some stuff to cut off the axle too.

Funny story. Got the new old axle apart and got stuck on the hubs. Told my dad I needed to just hit the wheel studs with a hammer to get them out. He reminded me I had a press. Lol

Got those all apart in a few minutes. Going to be posting some pics of the frame tube jig locations and knuckle ball condition for input shortly.

That look ok? Maybe take a carbide burr to it?

That knuckle ball looks great. I wouldn't touch it.

I guess I should have pointed out the tiny flake of metal hanging. I wouldn't do anything else to it

Oh, I completely missed the pic of the inside. Yeah, knock that down with a flap wheel or whatever. Did this axle come with Longfield birfs or something? That almost looks like somebody ran an oversized birf without clearancing the knuckle first.
