**DONE!!!!!**1988 SAS build - need advice for beginning

Thanks. I think they look ok. I just want to make sure I got adequate penetration. I used enough power, and I had to concentrate on the 1/4 piece since the frame is only 1/8 and I would blow through it if I wasn't careful.

Going to add the gussets tonight and complete the welds around the ends.

I may add the steering arms and torque down the knuckle bearing bolts. I just need to get it up to my new house 2 mines away then fine tune.

Got calipers on. Torqued down knuckle bearing covers. Spacers on.

How far forward is your spring hanger from the stock cross member, and how does your shackle angle look with weight on it?

3/4 inch. I think the shackle angle isn't showing correct because of the rear being so much lower right now. So I'll post that up when I get the rear situated.

That is where I had mine at originally. I ended up moving it back to where it was 1/4 forward of the crossmember. That gives me about a 10 degree angle when the back is level. I do have a different motor so that could some of it. I guess what Im getting at is I wouldn't have welded it up solid until after you verified the shackle angle.

Yeah you guys have a good point. I'll hold off on completing the gussts and such until I'm sure. I just figured I didn't have much choice with the v6 cause it is also to clear the oil pan.

After examining it a bit more, looks like I'll be doing some grinding.

My shackles are facing the wrong way all together. Not sure how they will flip themselves. Lol. Instructions say 3" kit goes flush with crossmember. Website says push it 3/4 for the v6. Oh well.

Trail gear screwed me up pretty bad with my rear shackle mount placement, now I have to cut the mounts off and move them. Live and learn, tack and test.

If you went with the 3" springs, you definitely will have to move the hanger. The 3" springs are shorter than the rest.

Well, I found another thread were a guy moved his frame tubes. Not an option for me at this point. I just followed the directions to center it. I just wonder if the tierod will clear the oil pan with the hangar being flush. I may give them a call.

Trail gear rocks. Called their shop and they said given my description it would work to just move it back. I didn't know this but moving the spring hanger back 1/4 inch will have a dramatic effect on the shackle angle, I thought by looking at it I would need to move it back an inch or more. By its one of those 1/4 gets you 3/4 inch things.

Funny story. I told the trail gear guy it was aggressively tacked in place. Lol

Thanks for helping me get this squared away guys. Had I known this would be an issue I would have moved the frame tubes forward half an inch.

Had some time today and got the spring hanger removed without much hassle. I got it moved and have the ideal initial shackle angle now per trail gear, about 10 degrees back. I had to jump on the bumper a bit and it settled just right. Going to play a bit more and see how far forward I can get the hanger to go and maintain the angle.

Got started on the rear last night, new house was a no go. After the rear was jacked up the front shackle angle changed too, so I can go further forward with the mount again.

Going to get the rear hangers all tacked and tested today hopefully.

Rear is tacked on place. Need to move the rear mounts to fix that angle. Front not quite there, but my options are limited for correcting that given the short 3" springs. Time will tell.

Started it up for the first time since I began the sas. Purred like it had of course. I was having problems with the cold start injector problem code but that seems to have cleared itself.

Goal for the week is getting the rear brakes all squared away. The Peking brake will require some modification it seems. I have plenty of flat bar to make new brackets though. May buy some new hard brake lines from Orielly and bend it myself since the rear lift made t so the stock lines don't lay right on it. Anyone have pics of what they did for this?

I've done some searching and found one thread with pics, just looking for more.
