DON'T kill audio right away with shutoff?

I have the 2020 4runner.

I know things like the windows and sunroof will still work once you push the button to turn off the engine, but it also immediately kills the infotainment system. Is there any way to prevent this? I'm more used to it continuing to run for X minutes, or until door is open.

Frequently I might pull in somewhere or park temporarily, shutting off the engine but not exiting the car and would love the music to continue playing

Yes, turn the truck off while still in Drive and then put it in park. It will keep the infotainment system working.

Weird, but works well enough... will just have to adjust my muscle memory!

I suppose there is no problem shutting the engine off while in drive (and stationary, of course)?

Have an alarm installer tap the headunits ignition power source to one of the power window/sunroof sources..
they can figure it out and can safely make this happen w/ a relay

Neutral works too. I do that for gas stations.

I believe your preferred mode of operation is unique to US made vehicles. I’ve only owned VWs and Japanese vehicles so I’m used to the engine off = radio off mode of operation. If I wanted to listen to the radio with engine off I’d turn the key to the Accessory position.

All the US made vehicles I’ve rented for work travel had that vehicle off = radio-is-on-until-I-open-the-door mode and it always kind of bothers me.

So, it’s whatever you’re used to.

But my last car that did this was my Audi Q5 (VW!)

It's not really something I thought about one way or another but it does seem like a nice natural convenience feature. Ah well!

My GTI stays on as did my '10 4Runner. The '20 ORP is one of the first vehicles I've had in a while that goes off immediately with the ignition and I noticed that immediately when I bought it. It's annoying.

Similar to Bmw’s too. What I do is open the drivers door then turn off the car. Radio stays on until I lock the car.
