Driveshaft good news

I have to brag about my local dealer--Toyota of Florence SC.

As you've heard, I'm the mileage king. My 2010 4R TE has almost reached 90,000 miles.

I had taken my 4R in to the dealer while still under warranty for the driveshaft bump that others have had. No action was taken then, but I made sure it was noted on my receipt.

When the tech bulletin was reported on this forum, I took a copy and a copy of my old complaints to the dealer last week. Without fuss, parts were ordered and my 4R now has a new driveshaft, paid for under warranty.

Thanks again to the members of the forum for sharing all the latest info.

Toyota hadn't put out the TSB yet. They were, likely, still gathering information and developing a countermeasure when niko first took it in. When they'd figured out the countermeasure and released the TSB, the dealer had a record that the customer had complained of the issue while still under warranty. IMO, this was handled exactly as it should have been. Good on the dealer for doing exactly what they should have done.

Would someone explain to me exactly what the driveshaft clunk feels/sounds like ? Does it happen when accelerating, braking or shifting the transmission from drive to neutral, then to reverse ? These questions are for a 5th gen, SR5, 4x4. Thanks

A search for clunk or thump would turn up lots ..... but it happens only after braking, the harder you brake the more likely it is to occur.

After stopping, as you let your foot off the brake you'll feel a bump in the drivetrain, exactly as if someone has bumped you from behind. There's a TSB for this, here:

The drive line replacement is covered under the OEM 60K or 5 Year Warranty.

Not sure about your extended warranty as they are different depending on who you bought it from.

I have a 2010 Trail and i've had the clunk for a while , and so i've been lurking on the forum and heard about the T-SB so I took it to my dealer for service and asked about the clunk and the hazy head lamps and the tech says we will check it out,long story short,they ordered the Driveshaft and headlight assembly they will install next week b4 Yellowstone trip oh yeah thanks to ( Toyota Central Downtown Los Angeles) and you guys:girl:
