Driving a 2010 TE for a rental:)

Go off-roading with that '10 TE.

The thought seriously crossed my mind. Living in WI and having 20 acres my parents own several block away in a vacant field covered in snow was awfully tempting. Being the standup guy the dealers manager has been, its not fair to him or the vehicle

awww c'mon. It's a TE! A 4Runner for a 4Runner. I bet they pretty much know what you're gonna do with it before they lent it you or else they could've just sent you a corolla or camry.

Acceleration off the line is very close to my 2006 V8, not quite as torquey but better than expected.

Interesting. Probably has a lot to do with the transmission. I'd be interested in knowing where the first shift comes if you give it a lot of pedal off the line.

yeah, that's really interesting feedback. after driving a 2010 SR5 recently, i was blown away by how much more powerful my '06 V8 felt. but i may have to take another one for a test drive and ask a little more of it… :driving: olice:

I honestly thought I would feel the same, that the V8 would be far superior off the line, but not as different as many would think. I have owned both V8 versions (2003 & 2006) and still am driving the 2010 and the V6 seems to jump off the line(touchy throttle) and goes! Once 4K hits on the tach, the VVTi must switch and you get another little burst of acceleration. Again the V8 is quicker overall, but by seat of the pants, the V6 holds its own.

On a side note, my TE has KDSS too, I was amazed how little body roll it had, and sure enough My 2006 has the XREAS and the KDSS seems superior on road.

The rear diff part arrived Friday and will be ready to pick up tomorrow. I have been enjoying driving the TE arround the last week!

I will let you know what the end result is and exactly what they fixed.

Just thought I would chime in saying my dealer sent me home with a black TE with NAv today while they look at my 2006 V8 4runner. I had a "droning" sound coming from the front end(as indicated with other GX470 owners with a service bulletin) and since my truck has the same drivetrain, they are looking into it.

Service manager initially said no rental, so I called up the sales manager we had been buying from for over 20 years and he handed me the keys and said enjoy I should have it for a day or so.

No I do not. My family and I have probably bought over 20 new trucks from Wilde(from the same guy) over the years. I buy Toyota's so I don't have to have any experience with the service department

Been awhile since I have posted, but I thought I would check out the latest "noise" around the harmonic droning vibration at 2100 rpms. This has been a topic on here for some time. Many of us have taken in the Lexus TBS to the stealers to try and get it applied to the 4runner with no luck. If you search back you will even find a former 4R owner on here who went to arbitration with Toyota over this. Toyota kept saying it didn't affect performance at all. The arbitrator ruled that Toyota had to buy back the 4R from the forum member minus the "used" miles on it.

But as many of you say whenever the cold weather comes around it gets much more annoying. This is one of those TSB's that in the future they will need to apply to all Toyota owners, not just the preferred Lexus owners if they want to keep us around. Honestly this droning has annoyed me for so long I have decided it may be time to unload the 4R. I waited to see if there was more headroom in the 2010 but it was hardly noticeable and with a lack of a V8 I have moved on to more options.

I agree that the droning on the 2003-2009 V8's is a problem and was never properly addressed. My dealer did replace the rear diff assembly on my 2006 after I complained about this but it never really fixed the issue and I ended up trading it in on my 2010 anyway what gets me is that Lexus knew the issue on their Gx470's and fixed it but the same Toyota version was kicked to the curb, yet its the same exact drivetrain....hmmm.



On a positive note, the 2010 is great and no droning sound:wink2:
