DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Old thread/post I know but thank you bereza for throwing out the info regarding the OEM 2 in 1 kit. I just had that installed and was hating the dang halogen DRLs, so I turn off the auto during the day and then on at night.
SO GLAD I (me being mechanically disinclined :becky
can do this myself and still maintain auto headlights. What I really like about the Toyota kit (and I wasn't sure until it was installed) is that the button remains on unless you turn it off-- it's not something I have to turn on every time I crank the 4runner. Thanks Yota for that at least! And now I wait for the LED hi/lo kits from XD....
Just ran across this post, good research.
The idea is to break the electrical connection at the pin. I'm thinking I can just put some Kapton (generically polyimide film tape) over the pin and plug it back in. This tape is thin and insulates well.
This way you don't mess up your $100 relay or put mechanical stress on the connector with the bent pin being force to the side.
BTW The spec says "1 mil polyimide film & 1.36 mil silicone adhesive". 1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch in electronics. So that's about 0.059 mm thick total.

Non Auto light switch 2016 Trail. :high5: All lights work, DRL disabled but moving the pin as shown on Page 4 of this thread. If you still have your doubts. Rest assured. Light bending of the pin out of the way will be easy to bring Pin back into place if you would like the DRL to function again as shock, without having to buy a new Relay.

YES, but does this work on the 2017 and 2018's?

I wouldn't see why not. It's the same for 2014. 2015. 2016. Why wouldn't it work for a non redesigned 2017 or for that matter 2018? All of which are fulling under the Gen 5.5 redesign of 2014 year models. If you can provide Photo proof the relay that controls the DRL in a 2017 or 18 is different then there would be your answer.

There are photos here to compare your T4R relay and power distribution fuse box to, just look at everything to confirm.
As [MENTION=150517]Terbston[/MENTION] stated, I would not see any reason why it would be any different on your year T4R...

My 2017 TRD Off Road has the option to have:
1) all lights off
2) DRL on only
3) Parkikg Light w/DRL on
4) Regular driving light w/no DRL
Because I’m installing the amber grill lights tapped off the parking lights, I’d like for just all my ambers (side markers & grill) to light up when switched to that position without having DRL come on. I aslo don’t want to lose the option of having my DRL when switched to that position. Is there a way to disable DRL when parking lights are on?

I don’t think you can have both situations, otherwise some of this thread would not exist.
It’s either have drl on when you go to parking light position or disable drls unless someone has found another way to mod them.
