Very nice but a little confused with the mounting flange mentioned? Do they mount right to the bumper cover or do you have a pic of the flange that the lights mount to?

The flange is the black part surrounding the light. It is either rubber or plastic. Basically he has the hole cut just enough for the light to fit through. Then you place the flange over the light and it holds it in by those two screws and probably nuts on the inside of the bumper.

It does look factory. If you get a chance, take a pic from a little further back to we can see how it all works together. Great job!

Thought so the way you wired them but the 'they're useless with the gate open' comment about the 6" confused me. As usual, me not be that smart. Don't be surprised if you get a call from me about these. :tongue:

SRM is 2 LEDs. SRM2 has 3 LEDs. You can choose spot, flood, or diffused. Basically the difference in the "specter" and standard rigid lights. The "specter" uses a different reflector/projector yielding more light. I am using the SRM2 in a diffused pattern.

I've noticed similar issues with my rear Rigids and have been contemplating the fix. I like what you've done with the bumper mount - I hadn't considered that one.

I had however, been thinking about putting lights in the bottom of the lift gate - that way when it's open the lights shine backwards and when closed they would be hidden. Plus, I'm less concerned about (me) cutting there rather than the bumper . . . :)

Decisions, decisions, decisions . . .

I thought of that. Here were my cons....
1. I didn't know how far the window came down. Toyota is pretty good about efficiency with space.
2. Water would accumulate at the bottom, therefore potentially create a different place for it to escape.
3. It would cost a lot more to replace a tailgate than a bumper.

Hmmmmm . . . all things I didn't think about and great points.

For number three I was assuming that if anything needed a replacement it would just be that inside cover rather than the entire lift gate and I also assumed that that was cheaper than a bumper. (That's a lot of assuming isn't it? Yeah, it usually gets me into trouble.). I completely missed the window aspect of it though . . . both the space and the water.

Maybe I'll stick with my current cheap workaround for now - a headlamp.
