Easy Weekend Mods

Haven't seen or been able to find a mod to allow the fog lights to be on without having the regular lights on. any suggestions are appreciated. in fact it be nice to be able to disable all the lights, brake lights too.:hunter:

Thanks! I took the factory running boards off almost immediately after buying my 4runner, but any time a girl gets in -especially when wearing a skirt- they have a hard time; even though it isn't that big at all.
So I finally found these; they are Predator brand and came off of a 2012 4Runner. I bought them off of craigslist, and had the guy measure the distance between the mounting holes, and they were the exact same spacing as the ones off of my stock running boards, and the screws were the same thread size. It took all of 15 minutes to scrape the mud off the bottom to find the holes and mount them.
N-fab makes one that looks about the same; if you find some, just measure the distance of the mounting holes. This one fit just like it was made for the 4th gen, but it is 'only' for the 5th gen trail edition-or something like that.

oh, here is a before and after pic of my 4runner. The color does change a bit depending on the lighting; I am just glad it doesn't look like a soccer mom car anymore.

Been looking for some nice side steps, don't really need sliders and they come too close to the body for any real step up functionality, they're off a trail edition you say?

I just did the fog light mod last night, I have an SR5 and it took me about 6 minutes literally. JA has some awesome write ups that makes things super easy. Thanks JA!

Did the LED taillight swap on my 04. Got the lights off of a 2009 and I absolutely love the huge difference these lights made!

Coat hook mod

This mod replaces the coat hooks located at the rear of the runner above the window. I never found them useful and I really wanted additional places to secure cargo with tie downs. This is what I did:

Order luggage striker assembly. Purchase fender washer. Paint fender washer black. Remove coat hook. Replace hook with washer and striker. Done.

Speaking of other uses for the coat hooks in back, I whipped this up.

I guess its not fair to assume everyone has 1/4" aluminum laying around and the ability to tap it... but if you do! LOL this took me 30min.

I reused the factory bolts in both body mount holes, and drilled and tapped the hole in the center for the metal quick release strap using a metric fastener I had laying around.

I'm blown away by how sturdy the whole thing is. There is zero wobble or shake.

I probably could have painted the aluminum but... its fine LOL.

In the end Im looking to get set up for the winter with some modest recovery gear. Every winter in the valley I see people stuck in the middle of intersections and other snow covered on-road "obstacles", so I figure it might not be a bad idea.

I used a self adhesive tint to black out the red reflective markers on the back bumper of my 2004 and also used it on the markers and my fog lights in the front. Now as much as I like the look, obviously the tint hinders the effectiveness on the light output for the fog lights. So I'll probably take them off the fog lights but I don't want the reflective bezel to stand out as much as it does.

Has anyone pulled apart the fog lights and done something similar to the blacked out headlight mod?

Mine apart right now, but for a different purpose... so yes, it can be done in the same fashion as the BHLM. I've found 10 minutes on 200 does the trick (flip at 5 min) and be patient, it'll pull apart.

Going silver

While waiting for my shocks and coils I decided to do a bit of painting to the bug guard, fog light bezels and roof rack.

Not the weekend, but I threw some lights on my truck. Cut the lower grill a little to fit these in. Drilled a hole into the steel bumper to mount them.
