Engine change?

North Star

Read a thread on AutoSpies.com in the last few days from a Lexus dealer who had just attended a product roll out seminar.
He stated that the new GX would be launched in January 2010, ( can only assume 4Runner in September of 09 )
Anyway the information given there stated a new 4.6L engine would be used for the GX "460" cranking out ~300 hp.

Hopefully we see the same in the 'Runner.
Sorry; no hard data, but if you doubt the second hand information I am providing, please do a search of AutoSpies to authenticate at least the primary source of this shady tidbit...

I read the same bit of info over on the clublexus forums.

My 2006 lease is up soon on my V8 4runner and I will extend it to get the 2010. With 300HP and hopefully a 6sp auto tranny, that combo would really move! Plus better mileage also mentioned here:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

TOYOTA BETTER GIVE US A DIESEL! I know they wont but with BMW advertising the benefits of their new oil burners here in the US you would think Toyota would bring theirs here and stop with all the hybrid crap!

Ok I feel better.

Toyota just announced today that the 2010 Tundra will be shown at the Chicago Auto Show along with their new 4.6 V8. I assume this will be the next motor for the redesigned 4Runner.

Here are the specs for the Tundra:

310 hp
327 ft torque
6-speed auto
15/20 mpg

Check out the edmunds 4runner forums. A dealer owner at a meeting this week heard more info about the 2010 4runner.

Supposedly no V8, but a 3.5V6 and a 4cyl with more rugged styling with truck frame.

I am bit dissapointed about the motor offerings....no V8 and if it didnt get any lighter, the 4cyl will be a dog.

Bummer.

that basically a rav4

if the 5th gen comes out they will put the 4.6 in it no question.
but the 4.6 is wired for speed not torque its been used in the ls460. very fast but not enough torque for a truck

Its not the same 4.6 V8 used in Lexus cars. This is a new engine recently introduced with the 2010 Tundra. It is indeed built for a truck's need for torque.

I have no issues with the 4cylinder as long as it's available in manual. I really hope that with the FJ cruiser being discontinued that they don't totally shut out those who prefer manual. That is the main reason I refuse to get the 4th gen.
