Engine Trouble caused by driving without oil

I am taking a look in the light and I am finding little odds and ends that aren't disconnected. I hope that nothing more was damaged.

Okay, I got the engine free from the transmission with some firm pulls and jacking up the transmission again. I got the driveshaft back together with the transmission using a rachet strap.

I found some little odds and ends that went unnoticed before and I can only find one more thing that needs to be detached. The problem is that I don't know how to take it apart...

I am using 19mm and 14mm wrenches and loosening the piece apart but the problem is that the more I loosen the piece the tougher it becomes to loosen. I sprayed some penetrating oil to no avail.

How the hell do you get this piece apart?

Pics included.

Please help. I am running out of time with the hoist :(

The two pieces almost feel seized. My guess is that you need to loosen the two pieces and then slip the hose over the hard line to separate the two pieces but I do not have experience with this and I am afraid to break it.

Okay, I got the engine out!!!!!!! :guitar3: :guitar3: :guitar3:

I just build an engine stand to put the engine on...but i don't know how the heck to mount the engine!

There are 4 metal areas where I guess I would put bolts but it didn't come with bolts to attach to engine and I don't know where on the engine to mount it. I have maybe 30 mins left of the engine hoist so I need to get the engine on that mount ASAP

Engine stand set up

if your are trying to mount the engine to the engine stand and if you have your transmission disconnected you use the current ones to hold the engine on the stand. 17mm transmission bolts.

you postion the Engine with the hoist pilot one and adjust the other 3. and then tighten the all up .

PM me if you have any questions Ive done a tons of swaps and upper heads repairs .

its easy to do

I guess what I was doing wrong was not taking the clutch plate etc off :redbrick:

I got it on the engine stand. The only thing is that I only took the clutch plate off and not the flywheel. It is secure but I am not sure if by not taking the flywheel off that I will not be able to fully service the engine.

Any ideas on next steps? Should I rebuild or buy junk or buy JDM? Is there a way to get a reasonable amount of money by selling a bad engine?

Also, while I decide on what route to take, are there things that would be a good idea to repair/clean etc while the engine is out?

What "clutch plate" are you talking about? I can see in one of your pics above that you have an automatic transmission..

Well if your issues were knocking I would get a used one from your local yard. Look on Craigslist under part for sale you might get lucky and find one. If your upper engine is bad there's no sense in redoing the whole upper.

Down here in Texas I get them for about 800. Look into it before you decide to rebuild or swap. Some yards give me a 90 warranty.

Swap is quicker and more reasonable if you never done a full rebuild or upper. You won't get much money for a scrap engine, maybe if the heads are good you can resell for about 150.

you're right. I'm a kook. It is an automatic and I took off a weird doughnut looking thing that was a lot heavier than I thought and seemed to be filled with fluid but never leaked... I didn't know what to call it. Sorry. What is it called?

Honestly... I'm giving you major props for tackling this on your own with such limited mechanical knowledge.

That's not meant as an insult or sarcasm either.

As much as I'm facepalming myself after reading some of your posts, I truly commend you for just diving right in like that.
