*EPIC TRIP* Taking my Trail on the Trail!!

The cross bars fell apart. The Toyota bars broke and it wouldn't fit in the back. And I was tired of messing with it. With a broke collarbone and ribs it was a little difficult to mess with.

oh man! repeated stress from the rough roads combined with the roof top load I'm guessing....how much weight did you have on there? It looked like it was pretty reasonable.

Will you try to have them replaced under warranty?

I may need to stop in estes to track down the big foot junkie. I would love to hear his stories, sounds pretty entertaining. Please tell me you spoke with him on 4-20. Speaking of, did you buy any weed on our special holiday?? In other news, are you really sleeping in the truck with the gas can??

DAY 12

Okay so I looked at the calendar and counted up the days and today is actually date well. Today I started out in Telluride CO on a little road called the last dollar Road. I was told about this road from the local bartender at the Last Dollar Saloon. I was also told about the pizza place right next door which by the way had the most amazing deep dish pizza I've ever tasted and I don't like deep dish pizza.

After eating the pizza and having a few beers I decided to go up the mountain on to Last Dollar Rd and try to set up a camp. Colorado is a fantastic place for one reason they allow you to just pull over on the side of the road and Camp as long as you're in a national forest.

This was my view this morning waking up

I decided to mess around a little then get some gas, get on Trail and make my way to Moab. The Trail was blocked several time due to snow and I spent alot of time backtracking because of this. None the less I drove out to Moab and finally got to enjoy some off roading that I wanted to. Here are the pics from today's travels as well as some off road 4runner porn!!

Sounds like an awesome trip. I have been following since around day 2 or 3. Love it. I am planning on a trip to Moab next year. Probably not on the TAT though since I will be travelling with a 5 and 2 year old. I gotta say though all the flats with the Terra Graps are concerning as those are the same tires I run.

What kind of tire pressure you running?

I'm running 32 the recommend on the door. I was originally running 37. These tires have been good however I have not been impressed with the puncture resistance.

I m enjoying your trip thread. Safe travels and keep posting! I think someone may have posted a great offroad resource traildamage.com . Highly recommend

2014 4runner Trail Premium. Shrockworks sliders, Weather tech floor mats, and some sort of high falutin tint and clearbra.

My brother has a cabin close to Telluride in the Uncompahgre National Forest. We usually take Last Dollar Road to get to Telluride. I love it up there, so beautiful.

I've been following you from day 1, looks like fun.

Enjoying your write-up so far on the trip.

Tire question?...I have the 265/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers myself, when you say you are running 32 psi is that on the trails? I run that for daily driving but on the trails I have aired down to 20 psi (not a lot by off-roading standards of-course) and haven't punctured anything yet (of-couse I just jinxed myself). On one tire I have had a nice slash, diagonally across the entire sidewall since a November 2015 wheeling trip. i have been looking at it every day since but it appears to be very superficial and not opening up. It didn't get any worse either on another recent, full day of wheeling aired down to 20 psi.

Maybe airing down might help avoid punctures? Understandably it is a pain to air back up if you don't happen to carry your own air when back on paved roads.

You must be loving every minute of this trip! I'm really enjoying seeing all the great stuff that you are posting! Hope your adventure ride keeps going smoothly!

Yeah 32 all the way. I haven't been on any trails that really warrant airing down.

DAY WHATEVER!!!!

So today was awesome!!! I was going to head to canyonlands but got ties up sleeping in a very expensive below par hotel!! Im playing it was OK emphasis on OK it was clean and warm/cold that all I can ask for the only problem I had was the price. Damn it was high, the same thing at home would ha e been 29.99 night!!! Anyways slept decent, noticed that I have evidently disturbed my rib fractures cause I can now feel those again which sucks. After getting up I decided to go get some breakfast at Moab Diner which was great, reminded me of Waffle House

264f1dac469542750f41f85d07847694.jpg

After that I decided to go check out Moab Rim which was on my map. So a little side note, alot of my map consist of me just finding places that folks have talked about and place marking it. Alot of time I don't remember what exactly it was that drew me to th e place to begin with!! So once I got there I noticed that the Trail haad was pretty intimidating, after asking a guy that was there with a side by side he said that the Trail was way rough and he wouldn't take his stock side by side, 4seat big one, down it. I asked him for a better Trail nd he said to try hell's revenge and since I had lockers should be good.

I'm so glad I meet this guy cause man this was EXACTLY what I had been wanting to do for 4yrs go 4 wheeling through Moab. Guys I was like a damn kid in a candy store that gave away the candy and the hottest toy out t the time!!! I was STOKED.

Moab's official vehicle is a Jeep I think!!

Everyone was gathered to watch people try to crawl up this sketchy ass cut off, so I decided that I would grab a beer and watch too

I have vidoe if the crawling up it. One almost tipped but everyone makes it! Here's my beer and a bad ass view!!

Here's the conversation
Ford Guy: yeah everytime I come out here something about the flexing makes the u-bolts break
Ford Guy: you just can't find good strong parts in Moab
Me: Can you find a Toyota?

On that note I was out!! The Toyota guy told me about these things called Hot Tubes that folks drive their Jeeps in, well I went and fond one. Check this out

The off road I did today was by far the most extreme I have ever done. I don't think that it's a 10 level but a strong 4-5 none the less I had a blast and even scared up the 4runner a little. The pics don't do any justice to how steep some stuff was. Here is a downhill and shoot from the dash mount

I had a great time. Moab is a great place it reminds me of a big Beach town and instead of the beach everyone gathers at the parks and trails with 4wheel drives, side by sides, bikes and so on.

After finishing Hell's Revenge, the Trail I did, I stopped at the loading area where I might add everyone was pretty impressed that the 4runner did it!! I talked to a guy that said there was another Trail that I should go on that was great to chill and drink beer, so I went into town ate a bad ass burrito, grabbed some beer and ice nd went back!! The Trail was Fins & Things. He had said that this Trail was easier however I didn't see that I thought they were the same. After riding for a little while I noticed that Daylight was running out. I was anxious to get out because I was unable to see and had now ended up on a hard Trail called porcupine Trail.

I was tearing shit up cause I couldn't see!!! Finally I made it to the main road. I tried every camp ground in The park and all were full!!! I had talked to some guys from aalt lake city that mentioned Lone Mesa Camp. After about 30min drive and 20min set up, I'm now writing this from a wonderful arrangement in the back of my 4runner. Tomorrow I plan on going to Canyonlands then hooking back up with the TAT.

Till next time,

PEACE

I've been quietly following this thread from the beginning..

I love it! Such a cool trip. Stay safe out there.:pop2:

Moab Rim is one of my favorite Moab trails but definitely not the place for a stock 4Runner.

That "sketchy cut out" is known as Hell's Gate. Many a vehicle have flopped there.

Glad you are enjoying Moab...one of my favorite places to wheel.
