Exhaust mods anyone?

I went ahead and had a Magnaflow Stainless muffler installed in place of the stock unit. The shop mistakenly threw a Flowmaster 40 on there first, and I turned around and took it back. Waaaay to loud- too much interior resonance. The Magnaflow has a very nice deep tone- not too loud- but you definitely know it's there. Absolutely NO resonance in the Runner... I would recommed it highly if you can't wait for the TRD to come out. Total cost was less that $200.:thumb3:
 
An aftermarket performance exhaust on a 6 cylinder just sounds wimpy too me. I think I will stick with the stock system. Now if it were a v8.......It would already be Borla'd! If I have a sudden need for speed I jump into the corvette. I had a kid in a honda civic modded rice burner wanting to race me at a stop light one time.......LOL!

Thanks a million. I had the TRD Exhaust on my 2001 and it was awesome...just enough grumble and not annoyingly loud in the cabin. I imagine this setup will be similar sounding. I just like that this is plug-and-play and doesn't affect the warranty on the vehicle. AND it's on sale for 580 shipped at AutoAnything. I think I'm sold.

Which muffler did you go with. I just had the 4x9 installed and it sounds great. We will see if it gets any louder and unbearable.
 
Mikey- I wish I could tell you the model number, but I can't. I went to a local muffler shop and said gimme a magnaflow. I do know it's stainless because I checked it out under there. I still love mine, not too loud but gives it a nice growl.
 
I Just crawled under there and measured- 18" long- 9" wide- 5" thick top/btm. No markings on it except for the magnaflow stamping. Glad I checked, one of the welds to the tailpipe section has a leak, I'm goin to take it back to get fixed!

FYI ..david papke is crazy cause i spoke with Borla in length and that does now fit the 2011...they are making adjustments and will have a 2011 one soon....Borla ppl state that the 2011 has some diff bolts somehwere making that 2010 exhaust not fit the 11 model...FYI

He has it installed on his 2011 and his remark about the install was "It went on fine, but I had to change the slotting on the rear hanger to make it set properly at the exit point in the rear valence.He shows a pic of the hanger and what he did. That's probably what Borla was talking about.
 
I sent an email to Borla yesterday and asked these two stupid questions:

- What would be a reason to swap a cat-back vice just a muffler on a 2011 4Runner? I mean the existing tubing is brand new so why would it be worth while to swap out the OEM tubing when I could just cut out the muffler and replace it?

- What universal muffler would you recommend for a 2011 4Runner? Looking for a light growl when you hit the pedal but still peaceful at highway speeds.

Curious to see their answer to the reasoning behind swapping to a cat-back. I've yet to hear an answer that makes sense......maybe I'll be surprised by their answer, doubtful though.

oh yea probably then ...cause the Borla guy wouldnt commit to it being a perfect fit..i guess thats why. im surprised they sold it to him being he has an 2011.they seemed very firm and stating to me not to try it
