Pretty uneventful week.... did find a dead Timber wolf that was clipped by a train.... One of the guys thought it would be fun to pose with it, and make it look like he was riding it... I told him he was f@cking the dog... :D

Gonna get some 4Runner pics for next week! :)
 
Some crew ran a switch in front of us about 2 months ago and I stopped our train right on top of it having very little time to react. The leading wheels passed the points tho, so we had to continue running it. We reported it but now got pulled out of service for the investigation on wednesday next week (SUCKS). I just finished classes for RCL (remote control locomotive)and am now waiting to get my OJT in for my class 6 license. Then on to OJT for Class 8 conductor trips... Railroad has been giving me a beating, but am getting pretty resilient to bullsh!t, lol. Its still a good career. Stay warm up there! we've had -26 temps a few days this week, not as bad as yours, but pretty miserable!

The railroad can be a harsh business... keep at 'er man... definitely a good paying career! :)
 
No issues with my heater.... just make sure you have your climate controls set to run through the truck... and not "Recirculate". :)

This week was great.... and I got some cool news from my boss.... they were planning on sending me to Toronto for some training! So, I decided to bring the wife along, and make it a mini vacation!

While on days off, I took the family out bowling for something to do... :)



After bowling... we went out for supper.... yum.... kid forehead... :D


I've been working here for a few months now, and never noticed that our steel recycling bin had a typo... :D



My douchebag assistant, decided to try and blind me, using his cell phone and the sun's rays... :p



Here's some rail road tech stuff... lol! As I mentionned earlier in this thread.... steel contracts when it's cold, and sometimes we get sections of rail which pull apart at the joints. When this happens, and if practicable, we use this stuff called Firesnake. It looks like long strings of wet steel wool, which is flammable. We lay it along side the rail, poor gas on it, and set it one fire. The result.... the steel heats up, and expands again, making it possible to bolt up again, without having to replace the rail.



Looks kinda freaky... but common practice when this type of break happens.

And here's a parting pic of Meangreen.... still waiting on exhaust parts, but just bought a new single din head unit for it! No more skipping CD's on my way to work! Gonna have music running from my Android... :D

 
No pics of the new head unit? I have the 6cd changer that is finally going on me; I may follow Brian SD's route.

I hate to say it but I still like the winter tire setup better.
 
The Head unit is in it's box in the 4Runner.... and I'm cozy in my hotel room.. :D Might try to install it while here... but only have a Swiss Army knife and some electrical tape as tools here.. :D

I'll post up some pics of it on my build thread tomorrow.... so be sure to check in! :)
 
After reading through this thread and your build thread, there is finally hope that another member is close by haha. Im also in Northern Ontario, still probably a good 7 hours from you though, love the pics. Enjoying the snow this winter, even here where im at we've got more than average this time of year.
 
I've still yet to meet another T4R.ORG member in person yet.... lol! Most are from the U.S.... and those who are from Canada, are either from the West or Southern Ontario. :D
 
Well, it's been a while since my last post.... been busy with training courses, and the like. Actually spent about 3 weeks in Toronto, taking those courses, so wasn't really up North. :D

Had to work on my own one day, and put the truck on track all by myself... :D




While working with a welder, we went to a town called Elsas.... the only way in is by rail....



They say spring is here.... I beg to differ.... :D



My babies just want a nice warm bath.... and to bask in the sun! lol!



On a side note... got a really good deal on Pioneer DVD head unit for my Tacoma this week....



Still gotta buy a mounting kit and the wiring harness for the dash.... but this is gonna be a sweet addition to my truck! :)
 
Kind of both. I forgot about the Canadian pricing there for a moment; but it is a good deal, for us it would be have to be about $125 US dollars.

I just detailed my Tundra, and as if winter is finally leaving, we have pine trees, which carries pollen, which covers all autos with a nice yellow film over them.

I really enjoy your thread. Last year, for the first time, I visited Canada to meet my 3 siblings. Even, in spring it was so cold for me. Hats off for living in that cold.

I recently installed same stereo in my 4runner. It was simple install but still If you have any question let me know. I did the hand brake bypass and rear view camera install also. These stereos are choosy about video playback through usb.

Well, was a long week at work this week. Lot's of overtime, one middle of the night call out, and some rush jobs that got done on a deadline, and all is great in Rail Road land. :)

On the way home today, I decided to park the 4Runner next to that woodpile on the side of the road, in order to give some perspective to just how high this thing is.... :D



The road is getting really muddy.... and nasty... looks like Mean Green grew some hair! lol!

Thanks for all the updates.

Quick question. Do you have any info on the lights (LEDs?) that are on the top of the front bumper of the work truck (brand, wattage, size)?

Let us know when you see open water on any lakes.
 
Sorry to keep crashing your thread but I thought you might enjoy this...
Its a loaded tank truck with a 1000 gallons of propane in it that flipped off the highway, fouling the north rail of the main.
If dispatch had contacted us 2 minutes later, there could have been a crater where Cliff, CO used to be. Yikes. [MENTION=63206]NEmike81[/MENTION] will know this spot
