A non-permeable soft faced material to cover the entire backside with to cover the up and provide a little bit of a cushion layer, maybe?
[MENTION=143879]Brandonium[/MENTION] really curious to see these when they are done. I have only personally ordered the strong and flexibles so I have no idea how the others look. The exception of the different materials other people have bought and posted pics of.

I can post a picture when they come in. I might be afraid to drill them for fear of them breaking. Would be nice to know exactly how Ray did this before I go snapping one in two.

The problem I may also have is getting a powder coating place to do 2 colors.

I didn't have any trouble with them breaking at the drill points. I did go too deep on a couple spots and got a small hole coming through on the front, but that was easy to fill.

I'm just curious how you measured that exact depth when drilling? Did you use a stop drill bit or did you insert the drill bit in the drill the exact dept you wanted? You have metal badges?

Haha yeah, pretty sure my guesstimation is worse than yours..I break everything I touch! Mine is steel so I don't know if I can trust drilling it without it possibly snapping. I am not familiar with the 3D printing process at all so I'm quite clueless as to the durability. If it were molded steel I'm sure I'd not second guess it.

I'm pretty bummed. Post office delivered these last night and I opened it this am after getting home. On one the R is bowed down somewhat making the I and L seem misaligned. The other had the T bent downwards which just came off as soon as I touched it. I love the texture and finish but I don't know what to do with these to be honest. I don't feel they look as well made as the others I'm seeing posted. Perhaps it's the material? I'm not sure how to address this with shapeways either.

I would "politely" contact them (Shapeways, they are very helpful and accommodating) and tell them is was damaged in transit (which it was if you opened it and the T literally fell off). As for the other, that shouldn't be that way either, there Q&A should have caught that. That is a metal material correct? For the price they should be perfect IMO.

The strong and flexible materials you can heat and fix any "bend" imperfections, I can't believe that would be a reasonable fix for a metal material.

So the process for metals as I understand, they are "wet" printed meaning that the printer lays down the metal in powder form with a wet binding agent, they are then transferred to an oven where the binding agent is released and the metal melts and binds together. I suspect this would explain why the second looks deformed, they have to move the print from the printer to the oven, maybe not enough care was taken during the process?

I'm not mad or pissed (I know sh** happens). I did send them a polite email and they opened a case for me. That particular material was matte black steel. The finish is beautiful but she also has to 1). stay together and 2). not look like Salvador Dali made it. :thumb3:

I hope they don't think I just tossed these $150 emblems around trying to break them. I don't roll that way.

I'll update once I get some feedback. I'm just sad I cannot slap them on. Now that I see the finish I might even forego powder coating.. just depends on my mood for the week.

I was going to go the drilling and magnet route but now I am too scared to try that if they are prone to snapping due to the materials and process. I was trying to stay away from adhesive since I never get shit right the first time. :rockthrow:

I seriously doubt they would think that, they produce and sell a lot far more fragile pieces from other sellers. I am sure they expect a certain percentage of shipping/manufacturing/ect. problems.

If you get the metal one just make sure you clearcoat the hell out of it, the steel ones rust pretty fast.
