I'm hijacking this thread a bit, but oh well!

Finally got the coax routed this evening. It was about as difficult as I expected, and I didn't take pictures along the way. However, I ended-up like this:



I ended-up running the coax from the rear down the passenger side through the wheel well (did the "wheel well storage mod" while I was at it!), in the door threshold, under the B pillar, and over to the center console. I just have to install the CB now. I thought I did pretty well in my poorly-lit B3 level parking garage parked directly in between two other cars.

Anyway, here's the antenna mount:

You may want to consider running your wire through the conduit that comes from the headliner. that way you're not pushing the weather seal. It's only a minor detour from your current routing on the lift gate. You also don't really have to drop the headliner since you're only going left for about 1.5ft., you can simply push the wire under the headliner with some care and be done.

Hard to tell from that photo exactly what I'm looking at, but I didn't notice a way in from the hatch. I'll double check this weekend when I'm back home for sure, though!

Yes, I ran it from the B pillar over to the center console.

You're looking at the top center of the tailgate. the hose piece is where the wires that power the 3rd brake light go through.

the top picture shows where I'm holding down the headliner and you can see the wires for my roof lights go into the hose piece. I cut a small hole in the other end (near the tailgate itself) where the wires come out. you can see that in the second picture.

Any tricks to pulling the carpet to run the coax under it?

Gotcha. I *may* not have enough cable at this point to route it through to the center, but I will definitely check this weekend. I was also thinking about notching the weather strip on the side that it attaches to the body of the truck and having the weather strip ride over the cable. We'll see.

As for routing the cable: nope. It's a pain in the ass and scary due to the airbag lines. I pulled it up carefully, wedged in some tools to keep it up, then fished the coax from the center. The hardest part was pulling it from the center due to the ~90* angle between the center console and the floor. I also used a coax that is significantly thinner than typical CB coax (Diamond C110 extension for the K-400 3/8 mount) and I had the luxury of not putting the 3/8" cable connector on until AFTER I fished it using this cable.

Sounds like fun! I want to go, but I'll have to see as it gets closer. I'm deploying in Sept, and usually we have a period of a couple of months where we spin up as a unit before we head out the door.

Asking for a week off might be a little much, but I'll try!

Another update...I'm 90% there and already smelling the mountain air. I will however have to leave Fri night (forgot I'd been signed up for something that weekend, wonder how it sliped my mind...) but I think getting 2 days of real trail riding in will make my summer. Plus the campground is cheap so that means I can buy more toys before I get there (which also got approved for "safety").

The last 10% I will know in a couple days, gotta work out a summer school schedule.

See you guys in July, can't wait!

Mine is going to be stock height... just changing to the TRD rims and some better tires. You won't do any of the hardcore trails, but will do fine on the easy/moderate ones. This subject has been discussed both on this thread AND is brought up in the FAQ on fjsummit.org. No reason not to join us this year!

Took my stock LTD on easy / mod trails and it did fine. I would suggest removing the running boards if you have them as mine did take some abuse.

I too would like to go but its a hell of a drive out / back.
