For those of you who are running magnetic drain plugs

Many companies advertise magentic engine oil drain plugs as Earth Magnets.

Now, I am assuming the earth magnets that are being placed in the actual plug are of neodymium as the alternate earth magnet is much more expensive.

Now... with a heat range of -100c to +80c, how can we be so sure that the material won't disintegrate?

Well they probably don't generate the same heat but the differentials come from the factory with magnetic drain plugs.

Oh, yeah, without question a diff will run WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY cooler.

neodymium iron boron does have a lower curie temp point than samarium cobalt. As this temp is approached the magnet will experience irreversible demagnetization. Nd Fe B should be fine at the temp. of the oil drain plug though.

Now, I would be careful about the marketing approach used for the drain plug. These rare earth magnets are expensive so be sure that the plug has this magnet type as opposed to a ceramic grade magnet, also known as strontium or barium ferrite (sounding scientific).
