GB: Ellis Precision FJ Style Shift Knobs

jdtaylor42 --- I will ask and let you know but my feeling is that due to the space available this isn't going to work out and/or look "squished"

I appreciate you checking and his willingness to do the "Trail" etch but after looking at it I think you are right that it may look squished. So just put me down for the following please:

Everyone that has posted in the thread and sent me PM's has been added as of 7:15 eastern this morning. First post updated with some additional information.

Thank you.

Does anyone know if the knobs in the group buy would fit a 4th gen?

I'm not totally sure but I think - THINK - the auto knob may be too long. I say this because if you look at the "cutting an FJ Cruiser shift knob down to fit a 5th gen" thread (if you click the link in the first post on this thread to go to my review thread there is a link part of the way down the first page in a post about the FJC knob).

In that linked thread, the OP discusses how the 4th gen requires more material to be removed from the knob to fit on the shorter shaft.

Having said that, the Ellis knob still leaves about 1.5" - 2" clearance at the bottom of the shaft so it may actually work okay on the 4th gen.

I am going to take my shifter off here directly to install a piece of heat shrink tubing over the bottom of it, so I will measure the shaft and post up here in a bit. That info, combined with your measurements of the 4th gen shaft should give you enough to make an informed decision.

Edit - measurements:

5th gen shaft from top of shifter gate, in Park, to top of threads - 5 1/16"

Length of shifter shaft remaining after Ellis knob is installed in correct orientation, from top of shifter gate to bottom of knob, in Park - 15/16" (this will get tighter as you shift through the gears, but I didn't measure that)

Here is an email I got from Joel re: 4th gen knobs. Also included 2 pics, 1 of the knob in a 4th gen (same as on his site) and 1 of the preliminary rendering of the "4R" etching.

Hey Mark,

I'm watching the group buy thread, and was wondering if you could post this picture of a 4th gen for me please? I've also attached a 4R rendering for those that are interested in that.

I'm going to contact the gentleman who bought this purple one, but I don't believe there is a fitment issue.

I do also make shorter knobs for the Tacoma, and if the 4th gen guys need a totally new length of shifter all together, I don't mind developing that for them.

Thank you!

Joel

MeefZah Thanks, you beat me too it. I posted up the rendering in the first post but haven't had a chance to upload the 4th get one. :) :reddance::reddance:

No prob... I swear I'm not trying to interfere with the GB thread, I only wanted to help out that 4th gen guy with some measurements, then Joel asked me to post for him. I'm trying to stay out, I swear!

I'll just be over here quietly wishing I had got in on GB pricing!

:) no problem. I think we are all grateful for you taking the plunge and getting the first set so we can all take advantage it. I honestly had no idea these even existed.

Just in from the vendor:

Bad news for 4th gens... The 5th gen knobs won't allow them to select 1. A little too long.

I'll make a specific 4th gen shifter, but I need a little time to make it happen. Won't be able to pull it off for this group buy.

Alright, glad I asked! Thanks for checking and the quick response!
