please be easy on me I am new in the tire and rim department.
I have 20" cali offroad wheels w/ 32" tires. I only have enough stud for about 3-4 threads. I am being told no matter what tire or rim I choose they will all do that. I need some advice on what will be a right fit for my 4runner.

Go to the dealer. Ask a tech. Full engagement of the threads is a must. If you cannot get that then you have the wrong wheels.

Thanks for the info- I really want 285s and I don't mind if they kinda sorta rub the front fender (even after the liner mod). Eventually I'll have an aluminum bumper with better angles to eliminate that issue. Do you suppose the body mount is always an issue with the 285s depending on how hard it's stuffed while turning? If so,are UCA's capable of adjusting the wheel far enough forward to solve that?

The front fender rub is easy to fix - took me about 10 minutes to do both sides.

The body mount rubs real hard in reverse, because there's an edge on it that catches the tire tread pretty hard. Enough that it feels hard on the drivetrain.

I am going to try getting mine aligned as far forward as I can (as close to 4 degrees as possible) to see if that gives me the clearance I need. UCAs make that alignment easier to do from what I understand.

Tire fittment with a 3 inch lift?

I keep seeing threads on this but have yet to see a definitive answer to the question. Who out there has a 3" lift on a 2015 4runner/ Stock wheels/ with 285/70/17... Do they still rub?

There is not a definitive answer....one 4Runner might, the next one may not. Each 4Runner is a little different...Even tires of the same size will vary from one brand to another.

I did search, however I am so glad there is always on someone on forums that never has a problem making that suggestion. Why waste your time and anyone else's.

[2016 4Runner SR5]

Installed 285/70/17 BFG AT tires on FN Pro wheels today. Wheels are 17x8 and the tires do rub the mud flaps and slightly rub the lower inner edge of the fender liner. Mud flaps removed, that was an easy solution. I won't be trimming the liner since I have a ToyTec Ultimate lift sitting here, just don't have time to install it just yet.

I've done a combination of searching and browsing and haven't found an answer to my very specific question: what happens if you run a tire that calls for 7.5-9.0 rim width (285/70R17 KO2) on a TRD Pro 17x7 rim? I'm less concerned about rubbing and more concerned about any vehicle/tire dynamics issues.

Adding a (maybe) helpful data point:

2017 TRD Pro with 275/70R17 BFG KO2 and no rubbing. At full lock there's about 10mm of space between the front of the tire and the front fender on the driver's side. About 15mm of space between the passenger tire and the mudflap.

Edit: noticed a new noise while going over straight over speed bumps at 5-10mph today. Might be rubbing when the wheel travels upward--will do some testing and update this post.

I can maybe sorta help with this. My 2016 Tacoma was lifted 3" on 285/75/16 General Grabber AT2 tires using the stock 16x7 wheel. Tires seat fine, wear fine, no issues at all. Not exactly apples to apples but close.

I ended up going with 275s, but more because I didn't want to deal with rubbing issues.

275 is a good look. If I wasn't going to lift mine I would have done the same. Put 285s on it, no lift, removed front mud flaps which I intended to do anyway, slight rub on the front inner section of the front liner when in reverse and turning sharp. Could be trimmed so clear but I won't bother since the lift in going in on Friday.

My goodness, I just read through the last 3 pages of this thread and all I can see is "my setup would be ______, will I have rubbing?"

Quite frustrating indeed.

Here's my setup.
Front 2.5"
Rear 2"
265's.
No rubbing, AFTER some fender liner mods

Does anybody have the offset for the stock limited 20 inchers? I cant seem to find offset and backspace for the stock rims in 20. I am going with a 275/55/20 and wanted to confirm offset/back space for new rims. Any help would be...great! Thanks :canada:
