Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide

My BFG's are 275 on 9x17's with -12 and the wear is nice and flat across at 36 lbs. No rub, until I did 1.25 spacers and then trimming at the rear mudflap but retained the flap. SPC UCA's. I plan to go 285 next time and the 9's will be perfect.

Post Fitment Help (please)

Hi all,
Recently upgraded wheels and tires (18"x 9", 275/65/18). I have some rubbing on the front when turning at different angles.
A shop just quoted me $551 for a leveling kit w/labor. Are they high or am I delusional?

295/70/17 Ridge Grappler on stock pro wheels
No bmc
Cut the inside of my mud flaps
Full metal front bumber so no rubbing
JBA HD UCA's(most positive caster available)
Kings lift

Well. the labor is still the same as replacing shocks. You have to remove the strut even for a leveling kit. you might as well do it yourself or pay the labor and just get better shocks.

For reference, I was just quoted about the same by my dealer to install Bilstein 5100 in all 4 corners. A local suspension shop quoted $350+alignment to do the same. I’m a total newb to suspension work so I have no idea how the labor differs between a spacer leveling kit and all new shock install

I have all the post but still don't see the answer I need, if it's out there. Most of the posts are for off-road 17 inch wheels and tire combinations, but I drive on freeways and on steep gravel mountain roads (1.5 to 4 miles to and from my home depending on which way I go).
I want to get 20x8.5 rims with the stock 15mm offset with wider (same diameter) 275/55-20 tires for summer use and then switch back to the stock rims with 245/60-20 dedicated winter tires.
So, does anyone know for sure - will 20x8.5 rims with the stock 15mm offset (5.25 inch backspace) fit Ok, with 275/55-20 all season tires.
My guess is, if the 275/55-20 tires fit fine on the stock rims (just pinched a little) then I just need to be sure the brake / upper control arm has room when the base of the tire is mounted on a 8.5 inch rim. E.G. is the backspace Ok?
Many Thanks!

OK, I'm a newbe.
I can't figure why the "Post Reply" went to the first post.
I'll try again and see what happens.

I really tried not to post another dumb question here but I am buying some new rims and tires for girlfriends 2015 TE. Rims are 17x8.5 available in either a +6mm offset or -6mm offset. I'm planning on 275/70/17 KO2 tires.
according to wheel offset calculator the -6mm is the correct one, corresponding to 4.5" backspacing. but I've called two wheel distributors (carid and bbwheels) and they both told me the +offset would fit better. can someone clear this up? I understand that both options may fit, I'm trying to find the one with the least amount of cutting

Tire Fitment -- same for LT?

1Engineer, thanks for putting this very useful all-in-one chart together -- very useful!

Do you think these specs are the same for the LT285/70-17" Load series E? Particularly for the revs/mile and speedo stats?

Thanks!

Have 275s on a 17x8.5 rim and have rubbing in the front. Suspension set up matters but I would expect rubbing with a 17x9.

Quick question here. I've done a lot of research and found a lot of conflicting info. I've looked at the chart and know that I 'should' be fine with stock tires (for now) on a 17x9 wheel with stock offset. (Many wheels for these trucks seem to be 9's.) The Hoss 2 I'm looking at, along with a couple others, have -12mm offset. Without any modifications or cutting, will this present a problem? Guy at Discount seemed concerned that there would be rubbing. What about with a 275 tire in the future?

I'm planning to get some 265-70-17 Nitto Trail Grapplers on my 2018 TRD Pro, no lift to start with. Anybody got this combo, any rubbing?

I will also eventually get some 5100's or 6112's in the front, just not right away.

Thanks!

1st Gen Tundra Split 5-spoke wheels (7.5"; +18mm)
1.25in Spidertrax Spacers
Toytec Boss Performance (2.5 Extended Travel up front; 2.0 Remote Res. out back)
SPC UCA's
BMC and extensive trimming of the front bumper and splash guards

So far no rubbing front or back at full lock but I haven't flexed it yet. Was able to get over 4 degrees of caster on both sides.

Need some help guys. I have a stock suspension 2013 Trail and I want to get a more flush fitment and put some A/T tires on the stock wheels. I’m wondering if I get the 1.25” spidertraxx spacers would I be better off going with 255/75/17 or 275/70/17 if I wanted a little more size? Which would be less likely to rub or cause issues?

First post, so take it easy on me. :)

I'm looking to purchase a new 2018 4Runner, and debating between the SR5 and TRD Off Road models. One of the differences, as you all know, is the wheels.

Just so I'm 100% sure... The chart mentions that the TE (Trail Edition) rims are 17x7.5" (vs the 17x7" rims on the SR5). The 2018 TRD Off Road models come with the same 17x7.5" rims, correct?

Yes, it’s the same (17x7.5”), except it has the extra black accents instead of all silver.

Am I crazy for wanting to stop at 275/70/17s? I thought about 285s but was concerned about rubbing and poorer on road manners.
I have a Toytec Boss 3/2" lift and TC UCAs.
I commute 50 miles a day for work and put on about 17k miles a year - 99% is on pavement.
Also body mount chop is a hard no.

I don't think you will have problems fitting 285's on stock rims and any rubbing will be minor and is easy to fix. However, if this is your daily driver, and you are anal about MPG, 285's are not a good idea due to weight increase and gearing changes due to increase tire size (your 5th gear will hunt alot).

As for me, I like the looks of the 285's, so I don't mind all of the above, but YMMV.

I put a 2" Rough Country leveling kit on my 2018 SR5. Does this mean the 285/70r17s should fit height wise or is the issue width when referring to the 285s?
