Got broken into last night

My girlfriends car got broken into last night...same spot. At my wits end. That's 2 nights and both of our cars.

:gun4::ak472::flamethrwoer2:Time to move , bro. :dammit:If your truck gets hit again the rage will be epic...:50cal::flipoff::lasercannon::mad::sniper::uzi::whipping2:AK47::rockthrow:

So, here's the plan. Going to break the lease on the problematic parking spot (yes, for those of you unfamiliar with urban suck, I pay $160 to rent an unsecured parking spot). I am going to rent a garage spot for the gf's car around the block, and park my truck in her spot directly behind our building (line of sight from our windows).

I am having a viper alarm installed next weekend with a pager function. That in combination with my bigass mag lite and pellet gun should be adequate deterrent.

Just another reason city life isn't for me. My somewhat off-topic rant about city life: this week, we visited some friends in Philly and some ******* hit my wife's MINI in two places on the rear bumper. A note with insurance info? Nah, that would be way too courteous. The f'd up part is that we were parked on the street right next to my friend's townhouse. Basically, a neighbor of their's likely hit our car and they didn't care. Really drives me up the wall that people can't take responsibility. I'm not totally shocked because 20% of the cars in that city look like they were piloted by a drunken Helen Keller. :redbrick:

When I lived in the city I had a brush guard and a BIG trailer hitch on my last SUV. I came out one morning to a guy who tried to squeeze between me and the car behind me, his front bumper was indented into my trailer hitch, he just left it there, not a care in the world. My SUV would have been toast, front & rear, without that protection (all parallel parking) within a year.

+1. My hitch stays in all the time. That's why I bought the stainless steel one.

People just don't care. It's actually kind of sad.

Yeah, so everything is fixed except the passenger seat. Replacement seat upholstery for the the trail editions is IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND in the United States and will have to be pulled from the assembly line in Japan or come straight from the OEM manufacturer. 4-6 weeks lead time.

Time to order Wet Okole seat covers. Certainly easier to replace those if/when they get damaged!

so i guess the "anti-theft" system standard on the TE and LE, optional on the SR5, doesn't have a glass break sensor? It just alarms when a interior door handle is pulled? Lame...

Almost no OEM system does, because it does not matter. In DC, nobody looks twice at a car with smashed windows and the alarm going off and somebody rummaging through it. Nobody will have seen anything.

They even step over people who have been shot crying for help at gas pumps here to gas their cars up.

You will get noise complaints from the HOA or apartment management company, however.

I had the exact same conversation this morning (although in a more heated tone) with my girlfriend. I already was not crazy about living in Columbia Heights, but my gf is in law school in DC (I work in McLean).

I really feel violated, and from now on I won't feel comfortable leaving ANYTHING in the truck, which sucks since I just installed and wired my Fridge. Really sucks having to lug 100% of my camping/recovery gear to our 4th floor condo every other weekend.

I wouldn't worry too much about the fridge. Typical scumbags who steal stuff from cars are just opportunists looking to "smash and grab". Things like your portable GPS and a small toolkit are quick and easy to steal. So definitely keep stuff like that out of sight whenever possible.

Yep, Once the alarm is on the fridge will likely go back in the truck full-time. In my parking spot I can back the truck up right against a brick wall where would-be thieves wouldn't be able to open the hatch - at which point stealing the 65lb tied + locked down fridge would be a several minute operation at least. I am also seriously considering bolting in the new ARB locking drawers in the back (see the ARB 4runner build). I really want to be able to leave my tools, recovery gear, air compressor, first aid kit, etc. in the truck at all times without worrying about the smash and grab.

The truck got broken into once. My GF's car also got broken into the next night. Not sure if that's better, worse, or indifferent. I am quite familiar with VA gun laws and will absolutely be purchasing when i move back to VA.

Whoaaaa Johnny Utah...when the zombie apocalypse comes, tell me which direction to run to find you!! :ak472:

you can usually find me at the Golds Gym Ballston from 430p to about 630p!

Also, to the others. I'm not a crazy gun nut or anything. My collection isn't huge compared to others. It's just for fun, and its' fun showing them off.

Guns aren't needed where i live in Arlington, VA

They are usually only needed in places where they're illegal. That's how it works ;)
