Hey guys.. i purchased my 2010 4runner in march of last year Certified.. it has a heated windshield.. but the windshield was replaced before i bought it.. i'm not sure whether they replaced it with a compatible heated windshield vs a regular windshield :der: .. are there any clue lines or marks that heated windshields have vs regular ones? i really would just like someone to take a pic of theirs if they know what the difference is and show it so i can compare.. if so i'm gonna MAKE them replace it with an oem one! THANKS GUYS!!

You may just have a blown fuse. That's what's wrong with mine...I just don't know where the fuse is.

Check your back wiper and see if that works..if it does then go the windsheild replacement route.

Pretty sure someone else will chime in with the correct answer but I believe it has lines at the bottom of windshield similar to the rear glass

yeah, im 99% sure there are 'lines' or 'dots' on the bottom edge of the windshield that heat up, and warm your blades.

I'm 100 percent sure there are lines. Get a flashlight and shine on windshield where the wipers rest. You should see a grid of lines. If not the windshield is wrong. You do have a switch on the bottom left of the dash right?

Woah, woah, woah

Sorry for not RTFOM.....at least not all of it.......
We have heated windshields??
I think Ive seen a button at the bottom of the center stack for sideview mirror heat. But don't recall Windshield tho.....

Please enlighten me folks... I have an SR-5 w/ convienience package if that helps.

Sorry for the thread hijack

This button on the far left is for the Windshield Wiper Heater

I think all the fuses (and respective relays) for the defrosters/deicers are all in the fuse box under the hood, pretty sure I saw them there the other day.

Out of curiosity how is checking the rear wiper going to provide any hints to his front windshield :)

And to OP, there are very obvious defroster grid lines directly under the two area where the wipers rest, no way you can mistaken it if you have them.

Thx

Heated Windshield

Here's a pic I took when replacing speakers. You can see the traces near the bottom of the glass where the wipers park.

Because I believe both are on the same circuit..thanks for the tip.

Update/Edit

It was not the heated wiper button..it was the rear defrost/mirror button in the center stack...just put me on "ignore"...

yea i definitely don't have those lines and yes i have the heated windshield button. it wouldn't be a fuse cuz the button also lights up and yes the rear wiper works.. ok.. so now i go to toyota here get it in the record that it doesnt and call toyota of michigan where i bought the thing.

hopefully the Toyota Certified covers your azz, i think it should, good luck!

i have a 2010. i forget i even have that feature. don't think i have ever used it.

Oh, you were thinking he meant the mirror defrosters, I was wondering what connection there was that I didn't know about between the front and the rear window defroster/deicer :)

Just a bit of useless information I figured out the hard way when I was installing my remote start's defrost option...the 3 defrosters/deicer are on 3 completely separate circuits (with separate relays activating each one). Although the rear window defrost and mirror defrost are on the same button, the ecu activates each one individually depending on the conditions (ie. if the rear window is down it will only activate the mirrors and not the rear window defrost,etc.).

I also thought both would have just be on the same circuit since it's the same button, but I guess Toyota was smarter than that! Hopefully that can help you narrow down your fuse blowing issue.

I would be surprised if they will cover this if the currently installed windshield is not a Toyota windshield. The previous owner probably had it replaced and their insurance sent them to a third party to get the replacement. I would check the paper work on your warranty looking for excluded items.

Does it come for the TE and Limited only ?

When I bought my truck I went on a fishing trip way out in the north on gravel road and just before we arrived at destination I got a big rock right dab in the middle of the windshield from a passing truck.

I took it to my Toyota dealer and they told me my TE doesn't have the wiper heater for my model, does it make sense since I have that wiper button on my truck ?

My 2010 TE has the wiper heater as standard.

Ok thank, I am beginning to think that the Toyota dealer where I got my truck are idiots or don't know their products.

It's night now but I will look on the dash tomorrow morning before work and see if it has the heather lines.

Not sure what I will do if it's standard on the 2011 TE and I especially asked my insurance to do it at my Toyota dealer because I didn't want no 3rd party shop to put a generic windshield on it.

At least there was the sticker Made in Japan on it remove by owner only....
