ok. I HAD the problem until I took a "sick day" (pronounced as: p-r-o-j-e-c-t d-a-y)
So, I started with this configuration. pin 11 going to the "+" audio signal and pin 12 going to the "-" of the audio signal on my ext amplified speaker. (the speakers are just a clip on speaker from a dell fp1901 flat panel monitor that I had a few spares of--few spare speakers, not monitors!
: ) The power for the amplified speakers was from the feed going to the cigarrette outlet there in the center console.
With this configuration, I had horrendous (sp?) alternator whine and also quite a bit of the static/fuzz on the audio people are talking about. So I had two things to fix to make it clean.
Well, I went to my local radio shack and picked up a ground-loop isolator thing (cat #270-054) for $15.99 and was gonna pick up a cat #270-051 12v 10A powerline filter, but saw a clearance item on the shelf cat #270-030A for like $1.79. So I got that instead of paying the $15.99 I was gonna pay for the originally intended item.
So I came home with my ground loop isolator and 4amp (which is overkill for a small amplified speaker) noise filter kit. The noise filter kit had a transformer (referred to as a choke in the kit) and a small 220 microFarad 25V electrolytic capacitor. So I installed this on the powerline to the speakers in the way that is shown on the second page, second drawing. I'd scan it, but my scanner seems to have stopped responding after scanning that parts list a couple of days ago (this list). Then, I used one side of the ground-loop isolator for the audio from the nav to the speakers. I did this all with connectors such that I could pop any section out of the signal path just to test or if it stops working.
Needless to say, I now have an EXTREMELY quiet signal and WONDERFULLY sounding woman directing me around town...
