OK "buddy" class in session.

-4300k is not the closest, it is in fact THE OEM temperature used.
-Blue color doesnt start until 8000k+, purple doesnt start until 12000K+
-4300k is in fact NOT the brightest, 5000k would be.
-4300k does have tints of yellow (3000k is pure yellow....)
-Color choice is personal preferance, you get WTF you like. No matter what color you end up with its a 200% upgrade from halogen.

I have posted 2 pics of 6000k (cheap ones even) from DDM tuning $40 and I have yet to find anyone saying "those are blue" and certianly not purple.

Please adjust the gamma on your 1975 IBM computer I think your color scheme is a little off.
Then post us some 6000k purple lights Im literally about to pee my pants to see this.

SONIC: No flaming here. What constitutes whatever amount of Kelvin to whatever color is pretty much irreverent. Although I agree that putting on anything higher then 4300K is useless. The fundamental argument here is functionality. If they work for you, that's great. BUT, because you don't own the road, you SHOULD be courteous to others (long lost custom these days). You mention that you and your wife see nothing wrong with "brightness" of your HIDs. Realize these opinions are SUBJECTIVE. I've had HIDs in my 3gen 4R, and the glare was epic. In Peru, the laws are laughable. No enforcement, but I justified (like yourself) them b/c I drove on the Panamerican highway at night often. Out there, it's just you and God for MILES. Anyway, the 4gen reflectors are just about as bad. The reflectors are not MADE to handle/disperse HID light. I'm on (PA) 476N/S everyday at night and can spot a plug n play HID kit miles away. Some are worse than others. NO ONE can argue that HIDs throw less visible light than a Halogen bulb can, which is why people like/want them. They look cool, yeah, but the main factor one gets HIDs SHOULD be for functionality not b/c "I gotta have what they have b/c its cool looking". You've done your research so you know that glare is an issue. Does that X3 or X5 in the picture have factory HIDs? Take a pic of them at a certain angle, then take a pic of your 4R at the same angle. You should see a difference. Judging by pictures posted isn't the right way to judge, but the glare does looks pretty bad. Just admit you are wrong about blinding other drivers, maybe not all of them. Apparently you are trying to do something about it by wanting to adjust them downward. My guess is that the first few persons who flash you or give you a single fingered gesture will motivate you to adjust them. Your admission of being conscience of glare is good, but you mess up by saying "it's not that bad".

Overall, I say if you want HID AT LEAST throw projectors on your rig. Besides, projectors look cooler (with or w/o HIDs).
 
you don't need projectors, just aim your lights down! and sonic, do some research before you post up that many paragraphs of complete bs.
 
5,000K is not blue, at least not in the sense people make it out to be. It might have a very slight hint of blue. I would bet most average people (haven't researched HIDs) would think 5,000K is more white than 4,300K.

The amount of light you "lose" is pretty small. Maybe 300 lumens.

It all seems pretty subjective... some say 4300k is pure white, others 5000k is pure white, etc etc. So I'll just have to pick one kind of arbitrarily lol.

@Clemsonfan15: you're right, it's not a big deal :) I just don't wanna spend 200 bucks and be like oh **** I don't like that color! lol. But there are worse things in the world.

Which kit are you going with?

If you don't like the color you can always buy new bulbs instead of a while kit.
 
Why don't you get the Philips bulbs I mentioned. They're 4300k and after about 100 hours they shift towards 5000k+. That way you get to experience both, or get the Philips 5000k Color Match bulbs which are supposed to match a color-shifted aged HID bulb. Either way if you go with HIDs, I would stick to Osram or Philips... if you want to guarantee it to be trouble-free and have the best performance. My last two pennies...
 
Lol at people getting upset...I have 10K on my bmw and theyre perfectly fine at night....4300k are white...6000K have a slight tint of purple just like you see in the stock high end cars like Ranges, Benzes, and etc..8000k is when they get blue...and anything above 12k gets pink...people are soooo off on their colors :banana:

I wasn't upset about anything. The argument was about color and Kelvins. I was only mentioning that projectors are BEST for HIDs. Many don't agree...............

Are the Mercedes and Range Rovers that high in Kelvin?? I think Lexus goes with 4300k along with Audi and a few others, but I may be misinformed.

Thanks for pointing that out, about the bulbs -- I think I'm gonna go with the xenon depot bulbs, 35w, 5000k. I'm gonna wait though til I get some more cash :/ so it'll be a while before I let ya'll know what I think :)

err - fogs, any quick suggestions? not to beat a dead horse. Should they be brighter or less bright then my headlights? maybe 4300k? or can I just buy a white light bulb, or will that look silly if the headlights are HID and the fogs arent?

On my '07, I installed a 5K 55W in the projectors and a 3K 35W in the fog. You don't need to worry about blinding anyone since you have the projectors. If you haven't lifted your vehicle or gotten into a front end accident, you should not need to realign your lights when you install HIDs. The harness is required to power the fog lights but not the driving lights. However, I still installed a harness for the driving lights - peace of mind I guess. You do not need a Canceler/error eliminator. If you take your time it should take you about 1 to 2 hours to installed the lights. I used the Industrial velcro from Home Depot or Lowes to stick the Ignitor and ballast to the sheet metal.

It depends on how you want to use them. If you want them to be pure fog lights then you will want a yellow light, somewhere around 3,000K. If you want them to match the headlights then you would obviously get the same color.
