thanks for the reply. as it turned out, my kit was missing one of the wiring harnesses. the people at xenondepot were prompt to send out a new one today free of charge. excellent customer service on their part!

question about high beams with xenondepot

i am installing the xenondepot xtreme h11 kit on my 06 SE. but when i switch to high beams, the low beam xenons stay on as well. how can i correct this so that only the high beams come on when they are supposed to?
any guidance would be appreciated!

low beams would always stay on even when you flip your highbeams at night when your headlights are on, your foglights will turn off though.

Now if your talking about daytime and flashing your highbeams that's a different story, the lowbeams and highbeams will both flash (which in that case it is not good for the ballast). There is a mod for that which i'm not pretty familiar with.. here is a link to a website that you would get a lot of information regarding your situation.. hope it helps ya:

HID vs Piaa bulbs

I am tempted to get the Xenon Depot Hid kit but am apprehensive of issues such as reliability, legality, voiding warranty etc.

As an alternative, I've been lookin at "fake" xenons from PIAA. I know it's comparing apples to oranges but has anyone had good success with the PIAA Extreme White Plus headlight bulbs? At $90 a pair, not exactly cheap if the result is similar to regular halogens.

Got my '07 Limited two weeks ago. Love it.

I had a set of those PIAA back when i had my odyssey, theyre actually pretty decent... but way too pricey.. with that price i'd go ahead and just purchase an HID kit... with all the money i've spent on bulbs i probably would have had a set of retrofited headlights with oem HID system by now

Reliability, HID have been in vehicles for a decade now. I haven't seen or heard of any issues with HIDs for factory equipped, retrofitted or rebased as long as it's using components that are supplied to the OEMs. However, I've also heard stories of premature failure with lesser and cheaper components. You really do get what you paid for, i.e. China/Taiwan/Korea kits sold on eBay for a $100 like cheezy 8000/10000/12000k kit that puts out less useable light than a 99 cent Walmart flashlight.

Legality, rebased a definate no-no. Retrofits some say it's legal because everything else came from a factory equipped vehicle/setup. Haven't had any issues with my 4300k XenonDeopt kit yet other than a few flashes here and there.

Voiding warranty, non-issue for rebased kits provided a wiring harness is used like the Xenon Depot kit. (I have no affliation with XD.) It's essentially like swapping out bulbs. There's more possibilities of problems with higher wattage bulbs than a properly setup HID kit. With a rebased kit, reverting back to stock is even easier than installation. There's a possible problem with retrofits if your headlights leak water, quite obvious since the headlight housing has been hacked apart. But hey, same deal for people who paint their headlight housings.

BTW, congrats on your purchase. You're going to love the 4Runner and being a Limited even MORE!!!

2008 has projectors and uses H11 for the lowbeams.

For the pre-06 models, could the projector issue be solved with an aftermarket projector headlight that fits the older housings fitted with a HID kit?

The aftermarket lights look terrible but it would save you from the glare of a reflector lense and the price tag of the newer headlights, trim, fenders, grill and any other misc. items you would need to make the newer OEM projectors fit.

This is just a thought. Any opinions or experience?

Which kit did you buy from XD? The $120 Volt kit or the $200 Xtreme kit? Anybody know the difference? Im going to buying an HID kit soon, and read that the Philips bulbs in the XD kit are most likely to give the best cutoff and focus etc. Do they both come with Philps bulbs? Id like to do this right the first time. Thanks.

Hi,

There are 3 main differences between the Xtreme kit and Volt kit:

1) The Xtreme kit uses Japanese bulbs/ballasts whereas the Volt kit uses Taiwanese components.

2) The Xtreme kit comes with a relay harness to power the ballasts directly from the battery. This harness ensures that the ballasts always receive a constant 12V.

3) The Xtreme bulbs use German made Philips quartz anti-uv glass. This is important as HID bulbs do produce UV light. These bulbs will ensure you do not damage your headlights as a result of UV.

1. are the 06 headlight assemblies plug and play into the 04?
2. what are the part numbers and costs

Hi daytonaviolet,


We have had a lot of customers change over their headlights to the newer style projector housings. All you would need to do is get an H11 HID kit and ask us for a 9006 harness as the new headlights use an h11 bulb however your OEM wiring is 9006.
