How To: AEM F/IC-6 Install, Tuning, and Help Thread

Just finished the install of it last night but it wont fire with the computer plugged in.

Fires and runs with the bypass plug so I'm thinking i have a in/out possibly mixed up. It throws a code for the cam sensor circuit after cranking for a bit with the computer plugged in.

Yay.

The cam sensor circuit code wouldn't let it start on mine either. Make sure you have your cam/crk wires all right. It's a learning process, but you should have all of the info to get this figured out pretty quick. Let me know if I can help.

Much appreciated.

Just to confirm, the CAM and CRNK negative inputs are not used right? Just the outputs

Nope the inputs are most definitely used. they are a tap. Let me confirm that my chart is up to snuff. I also just updated the Resistor diagram to make it clearer.

This is how I have mine wired, with the resistor added of course, and I do apologize I did have CRK MAGO- instead of CRK MAGI- I will update that now.

Thats probably where i am going wrong. Thanks for the clarification! I'll mess with them after work and hopefully get it all squared away.

I will say that it doesn't really like to run with 550cc injectors on a stock map

The Pinout chart is all updated. I bet with those you are redefining pig rich!

lol I plan to go 550cc's too, but will be keeping the blower, rebuilding it and then pulleying down to a 2.0" so I can make somewhere around 14 PSIg :P. A rebuild is the first step though since i may be overspinning the blower just a tad :P

LOL, I remember when I was 16 years of age and swapped in some 550's into my talon. Ran so pig rich. We could dial a screw on our maf to somewhat compensate for them. Then we found that the later generation maf swapped into older car would work perfect. We where pioneers on those damn Mitsubishi's years ago.

Lets just say fireballs every shift!! Blown out cats are fun.

what injectors did you go with?

I want to get this installed in my Tacoma soon! hopefully this winter.

So i played with tuning it a bit while taking the long way home from the shop this evening. I still have a lot of work to do as its mostly trial and error to see how everything reacts to the changes you make. The URD/Split Second unit is similar in that regard but the AEM is absolutely one bajillion percent more user friendly to make adjustments.

The biggest improvement so far is the fact that you can make adjustment to whichever map you are working with on the fly!!!!

The URD unit required that you do your observations, then pull over and make changes to your map, shut the truck off, upload the new map (which took forever), power cycle the unit, restart the truck, then finally see how your adjustments changed how it ran and such.

With the AEM, you can literally be driving, do a pull, make an adjustment, while still driving, and immediately do another pull!

That is gosh darn awesome

Wow that would suck so bad. Tuning on the fly is so much better. Only had to do that when completely rewriting eprom.

I had no idea that you couldn't live tune with the URD unit... I would probably end up murdering someone if I had to do that to get a tune done!

It took a buddy on the computer and me driving 2 hours to build a tune from scratch for my truck, that would have taken DAYS if I had to restart the damn thing after each pull!

Jack stands holding brakes let's you tune in the garage!

Been reading this thread as it develops, you'll likely have another mule for this in a few weeks on a "stock motor" at first and then a fully built one to see exactly what our trucks can do.

Great work so far!
