This is normal behavior for our trucks.
:yo:
Exactly, there has been some superstition mentioned that installing the TRD CAI causes the truck to die on the first start up, when in fact it's just the reconnecting of the battery.

Ah, I see, ok thanks. And a K&N filter really is THAT much better than the stock filter? The 33-2438 filter? I don't see why the filter is much better...
I just did mine yesterday (forgot to unplug battery), started right up fine.
Used the printed Toyota instructions, no real issues, only a few spots that required some interpretation due to their small photos. Took about an hour or so.
Big difference in noise above 3500 rpm or so. I think it feels peppier too, but I don't know how much of that is real vs perceived with the extra sound. Sounds very mean
So, can anyone verify this for me. Is it really that much more affordable to buy the pieces (and assemble it) than it is to buy the total unit?

mine whistles. always has.I understand that. I am inquiring to see if anybody is experiencing a whistle

mine whistles. always has.
The growl my TRD cai makes was almost startling at first. Tough sounding indeed. Installed my snorkel and it pulls so much air through at WOT, the grate on the snorkel vibrates pretty loudly.

It sounds like a ricey muffler. It's kind of cool sounding, cause it's only after about 3500 rpms. Otherwise it would start getting annoying. I did wrap a little e-tape around the outer frame in a couple places to shim it out, it helped a little.View attachment 256269
Definitely happy though. With the addition of the URD crossover and a Magnaflow to go with the CAI, the Low end torque has improved, so at 5980 lbs on the CAT scales it really helps get this beast moving.
I do have a slight whistle (possibly the WT rain gaurds creating it off the snorkel) but not enough to bother me.
oof. it's been a long time since i set it up. but if i recall correctly, there were no holes in the lower airbox... or if there was, that there was a grommet/plug provided to fill it in.Did you plug the hole in the side of lower box, or was it plugged when you bought the whole unit preassembled?

........... a hole next to one of the grommets that i left alone, should that be plugged?
Yes......
