Exactly, there has been some superstition mentioned that installing the TRD CAI causes the truck to die on the first start up, when in fact it's just the reconnecting of the battery.

I wouldn't run a K&N filter if they paid me. Just stick with stock IMO. It's the cheapest and most reliable solution.
Yeah, it gets in the upper RPMs it is quite loud. When people ask why Toyota wouldn't just use the TRD setup stock, THAT has gotta be one of the main reasons.

i'd stick with stock paper filter also.
The KN allows more breathability but the downside is a decrease in filtering (and how much breathability is open up for debate).
I have first hand experience with this.... I put a KN filter on my Toyota tundra, and one day I went to check the filter, there was gritty particles/dirt stuck on the side of the KN filter and intake box that was suppose to be clean. I threw out the KN filter that very day. I"m not willing to sacrifice reliability for performance.

If you go back to the original thread you just posted, scroll down and read, you will see many did exactly that and you can see the results......
forum noob mistake. only saw that post individualy, via a link from another post...missed the thread. embarrassing.
Can someone verify something for me.
I was able to buy some stuff off eBay and then dealer discounts and get everything for a good price.
One 'package' I bought was the black tube the MAP mounts to. It was a fair price and it also included basically the other red pieces, clamps, and hose fittings came with it.
what I have noticed though. When I watch the video, the red coupler that mounts to the throttle body side. His black tubing inset was straight. the one that attaches the large black hose. Then also his small hose attached directly above it. Both on firewall side.
On mine... I have a right angle large tube fitting firewall side and a straight small tube fitting and mounting point on radiator side.
I can easily go buy a replacement straight or right angle fitting if needed but has anyone seen this setup? Where those tubes large and small are mounted on opposite sides of that red coupler.
I just want to be sure I have the right parts before I pull everything apart.
It seems like just a design change and would have no impact on function or install. I just want to be sure it doesn't raise a red flag as being the fitting for a different model and won't fit the throttle body.

this doesn't include the filter though? or are people just using the stock air filter with the new intake ?

Just installed the piece out order from camel back parts. To all that has added to this thread, I tip my hat to you, you guys are the real heroes for me today. Let her rip on an on ramp and was pleasantly surprised with the growl coming from the engine bay.
I do have a question. I have not noticed any 'whistle' or CAI noise that I'm used to. Is this common? I plugged the hole on the side of lower box, and really cranked down on the bolts that fasten lower box to vehicle to the point of a little bulge from rubber grommets. Im not sure if this would contribute towards not hearing a whistle. Gawt danget bobby i paid top dollar for my snake oil, i expect my snake oil noise. Thanks in advance

The growl my TRD cai makes was almost startling at first. Tough sounding indeed. Installed my snorkel and it pulls so much air through at WOT, the grate on the snorkel vibrates pretty loudly.
It sounds like a ricey muffler. It's kind of cool sounding, cause it's only after about 3500 rpms. Otherwise it would start getting annoying. I did wrap a little e-tape around the outer frame in a couple places to shim it out, it helped a little.
Definitely happy though. With the addition of the URD crossover and a Magnaflow to go with the CAI, the Low end torque has improved, so at 5980 lbs on the CAT scales it really helps get this beast moving.
I do have a slight whistle (possibly the WT rain gaurds creating it off the snorkel) but not enough to bother me.

Did you plug the hole in the side of lower box, or was it plugged when you bought the whole unit preassembled?

i noticed with the snorkel, it really brings the CAI to life..

oof. it's been a long time since i set it up. but if i recall correctly, there were no holes in the lower airbox... or if there was, that there was a grommet/plug provided to fill it in.

I purchased my order pieced out from camel back. There was a hole in the lower box that i plugged, as well as a hole next to one of the grommets that i left alone, should that be plugged?

Fiddle stcks. Time to take it apart. Just so we're clear, this is the hole on bottom of lower box that is adjacent to one of the rubber grommets that was transferred from old box? I bought silicone sealant to seal the hole on the side with a push plug. Any suggestions on what i could use for this square-ish shaped hole?
After digging through this thread for the 100th time i found my answer, just sealed the hole on bottom of box that is adjacent to grommit with silicone caulking. Thanks again for all your help
