Another thing that works great for this is a 8" piece of 3/8" fuel line.

That saved me a trip to the parts store - I have some leftover from my diff breather
thanks!

I prefer to install them with a spark plug socket and extension, same as I remove them, except I turn the plug counter-clockwise by hand until I feel the thread "jump" and then slowly turn them in. I've never cross threaded anything using the reverse-first method.

Looks like PhotoBucket has torpedoed this "how to" thread. I'll find a new hosting site and update the pics.

Imgur, and put an h at the end of each file name to make it a "huge thumbnail", that size is just about right for this forum.

I'm checking out Flickr. Imgur terms say no 3rd party hosting which they may enforce in the future.

Edit: My hip graphic designer daughter has suggested SmugMug.

Thanks for looking into photo hosting. I've got a set of plugs in the garage I need to install. I was looking for some pics. Thanks for the write up!

Great guide thanks! Doing it now.

The sparkies come from the factory at the proper gap according to the NGK website. They have a -11 after the stock # I wonder if that signifies the 1.1mm gap.

Like a dumbass I put the wires back in the wrong order and had a misfire. Thankfully I found a pic of the order on here and was able to fix it.

Loss of power and rough idling after maintenance

My truck is running rough and I can feel a loss of power and when accelerating it almost feels like it's skipping a gear or cylinder from what I read and have been told but I thought who would know better than y'all. So what's the forum opinion/diagnosis

I just got this truck after it was sitting for the better part of a year. The repairs and the maintenance done so far is:

•Bought new battery
•Changed spark plugs
•Replaced the ignition lock cylinder after key broke inside
•radiator quick flush
•changed 3 bulbs
•patched crack at top of radiator with Quick Steel
•sealed radiator with AlumaSeal
•added Lucas fuel system deep cleaner
•sprayed belt dressing on belts
•took off underbody cover the other night and then washed my truck body

The battery cables have extra wires other than the normal connection wires attached to it for the speaker wires but there's no speakers or amp hooked up in it

I'm at a complete loss as of now because I haven't had the battery tested yet. But I was able to drive it home after the second attempted jump start. The first one didn't make any changes. The first time I tried to get a jump from a newer Nissan maxima or Ultima and it didn't have any affect whatsoever. The one that worked was from an old ford truck. It started right up. But as soon as I got home I shut it off and it's dead again and won't show any signs of life at all. I honestly think it's the connection wires on battery but it's hard to determine with all the maintenance that I've done this past week

So any reliable, relevant, helpful information/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind that I don't have the money for a shop or any big dollar troubleshooting so please don't suggest because I won't be able to do it

Thanks so much

Which motor do you have? If it's the 3.4, you need to ditch those spark plugs and get dual electrode.

Dude, you need to replace that radiator like yesterday. OEM is as cheap as any other radiator ($120)

Sure up that ground cable connection first before anything then run the truck and check the battery voltage while the truck is running. Should see something around 13-14V

Follow the red wire and find where it goes. Might discover something "interesting"

Very confused about your issue. You say it was sputtering like a miss, but then you said you needed a jump. The first jump probably didn't work because of a bad jumper cable connection. Need more clarification on the engine miss vs. the need for a jump start.

Also, I know you said not to suggest big money, but there's several things on these trucks (one of them I just suggested) that if you don't PROPERLY rectify you'll spend even bigger money. These truck are not very forgiving on the wallet to fix them RIGHT but if you do fix them right then you shouldn't have to worry about it again and you save money in the long run (and short run if you go through the proper diagnosis instead of throwing parts at a problem)

I assume most people replace all 6 spark plugs and the 3 wires on a regular basis, but how often are the coil packs to be replaced? I'm doing an overhaul (replacing pretty much everything on a new to me 250k mile 97 4runner and want to buy EVERYTHING :).

Thanks in advance.

Far as I know you only need to replace coil packs when they fail to work properly. I'm at 430k with originals and no issues.

So unless you have evidence they are failing, I would put that money towards other things.
