I appreciate the condolences. The new pups are going to be fine successors to the back of the 4Runners. We've had Luna less than 4 weeks and she's just about house trained, and is coming along great with her training. Penny is a rock star all around. Turn the page, right?

Thanks for the kind words, bud. I think the new pups are going to work out great. They are both very tolerant of our Daughter... she's a good kid, but man she likes to pester those dogs!
The red Escape is my Mom's. It's a 2wd, and I've led her through some pretty rough spots without too much trouble. It's been pretty reliable and she likes it, but I still would have recommended a Toyota instead.
Anxious to see what you've got going on. I may have heard a rumor about why one of those things will be for sale. No spoilers here though.

I agree with you somewhat about the posts lately. Perhaps you just have click fatigue like I do lately on this forum.
As for my build I'm only updating it on a per trip basis (for the most part). I still follow your build and Dirtco and quite a few others.
One of the things I like most about this forum is how polite , often overwhelmingly so, the member are, even those who are new.
I still receive super polite PMs about this or that. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't give up on T4R! Keep it updated as the major updates happen.
BTW the fish you catch are so awesome. I would love to catch something like that at least once.

I haven't given up on the forum, and don't plan to, but I know that this thread gets alot of views so I figured it might be a good place to voice my opinion. I just miss the days when you clicked on a build thread, read through the update, and got your mind blown. The ingenuity was just off the charts there for a few years, and now it's slowed down alot.
As for the fish, come visit sometime and I'll get you hooked up.

Great update even though it wasn't "technically" and update to your build. I too have been on the down swing here. My rig is pretty much where I like it. Only debate for me is a supercharger. We'll see. I've also been tossing around the idea of getting a different vehicle. With the amount of trips I'm taking to the coast, it makes more sense to get a vehicle that is a little more efficient. I'm actually going to go look at something today. I don't think I will swap out my 4Runner. I love it too much. But, you never know...
Thanks Jared, it was definitely not easy watching them slip away. It's part of dog ownership, though, and you've gotta be there for them when the time comes.
I noticed you've slowed down alot on your build, and I think you make a good point. There is only so much we can do to these things before they become overdone for what we actually use them for. I drive the '97 sometimes, enjoying it's simplicity, and find myself wishing I hadn't gone quite so far so fast with the '01. Also, the fact is that forum members like ourselves have been around long enough that many of us have seen our families grow and outstrip the capabilites, or rather capacities, of our beloved 4Runners.
Maybe myself and a few others will still be here in 5 years, the last of the "OG's" who didn't sell their rigs.

If I could move to CO, I would do it in a heartbeat. However, Rene and I both have some family here that we are not ready to leave behind, so that's the main reason we stay. I can get a job doing what I do just about anywhere, so maybe someday.....
There is a really nice 4Runner on craigslist in Pagosa Springs right now... looks just like yours did stock. 135K miles, for $9k. Just in case you're looking to get back into a 3rd gen :eyebrows:

People move on, as rides get handed down or sold for newer vehicles (such as for the GX470) for space for families or the modding bug has hit the ceiling. Mine doesn't even have 105,000 miles on it so I'll be here for some time, at least that is the plan. It is too good of a vehicle to give up.
Nice fish as always, but I hope you got to go fishing in Miami at least ONCE, coming away with the understanding of why saltwater fishing can be so addictive and costly.
I appreciate the condolences, LC. You really put it well (and concisely) regarding the lifespan of vehicle ownership. I've noticed a trend toward a younger group of owners with the 3rd gen. Probably because they are becoming more affordable as a first vehicle, and are more commonly being passed down to a younger generation.
The 3rd gen holds a place in my heart similar to that of the MKIV Supra. It is simply one of the best products ever made by Toyota, or any auto manufacturer for that matter. There is so much good about them that I will always have one to use for my solo fishing/hiking excursions, if nothing else.
As far as fishing in Miami... you know I couldn't let that opportunity pass me by!!!

Not the ones I was hoping or ever want to see (sorry about your loss) but at least you have a couple new friends to fish with. Also your daughter is getting old. It's crazy how fast they grow as mine recently turned 4 and she blows me away with how old she is.

I miss the updates as well. I think time just moves on and we move around to different things with our time. With me more and more entrenched in finishing my undergrad, I find have literally ZERO money or less time to work on my rig... I will have to post some fresh pics from this summer onto the photolog. I keep loving my rig more and more though as it continues to be one of the most reliable things in my life - always starting and never giving me a problem - it's solid. Some day I'll get more done with it!

So sorry to hear about your dogs - I lost my childhood dog of 10 years last spring - I still look for her sometimes. Nothing like a good companion.

Seeing others grow up on film can definitely make you feel old. I helped a guy work on his 4Runner today who is 19 years old. When I first met him it was on a fishing forum through his Dad and he was 12. It was crazy to think about how fast those 7 years had gone by.
Sorry to be getting out of the ARB club. I already know I'm going to miss that bumper... it really is a classic, and classy, look for the 3rd gen.
