I ended up needing the steering shaft extension afterall. All '96 models need them and some early '97s (mine's a '97 model made in 7/96). I wasn't sure so I got it just in case and was glad I did.

I know this thread is waaay old, but I've got a question. I'm installing a 1 inch toytec bl on my 97 today. I think mine was made in 11/96, so I'll probably have to use the steering extension. But my question is, how did you know you needed the extension? Was the steering too tight?

IIRC, I loosened the bolts on the steering rag joint before I installed the BL. I think when I went to go tighten it back together after the lift, it would have been pulling on it way too hard w/o the extension. I didn't know for sure that I'd need the ext., I just got it in case because it was fairly cheap.

What I've been trying to say is that I'm pretty sure the body bolts are 10mm.
