I got a 1" 4Crawler body lift today. And why...

So after thinking about it for a couple months, I finally pulled the trigger on a 1" body lift. I think the 4Runner is going to look really good an inch higher, but I also bought it for functional reasons. First, I plan on adding some weight. Right now I have a 3" OME suspension lift that I'm very happy with, but I want to get some rock sliders, armor skid plates, a winch, and a rear tire carrier bumper in the not-so-distant future (I'll start with the sliders in the next week or two). I know all that extra weight is going to make me sit a little lower, but I'm already at the lowest I want to go right now (to avoid rubbing).

I thought about doing 10mm trim packers (spacers) to lift the truck a little more, but I decided I'm as high as I want to go suspension-wise. My CVs are at an acceptable angle now, but I don't want them any steeper. I also don't want to mess with the ride quality because it's perfect for me the way it is right now - sticking spacers in there can change the ride, particularly in the front. I'd also have to realign it afterwards and screw all that, so a body lift or nothing was my choice.

I also have some 305/70 Mastercraft M/Ts that I was running for about a year and took them off because they were rubbing in the back. I got these seriously kick ass 285/75 Dunlop severe winter M/Ts and I'm thinking I want to put the 305s back on in the spring because I want to save the Dunlops for next winter. I think with the new body lift, I'll be able to get the last 10 or 15K out of the 305s without rubbing issues. Even if they do rub a little, it'll be a lot better than before.

I decided to go with a 4crawler lift because for the same price as some other brands' 1" body lifts alone, I got the lift and a steering shaft extension from 4crawler. I've also read good things about their products. I don't know if I'll actually need the steering extension (mine is an early '97 which may or may not have the shorter '96 style steering shaft, but I figured why not be safe). I read a few threads that said a radiator drop isn't necessary for a 1" lift and thanks to Proudrunner for confirming that for me.

So that's it, I'll update with some b&a shots when I put it on, feel free to give any tips or suggestions on installation or anything else!

awesome can't wait to see pics!

did you get the bumper brackets?
oh...you're not running your factory bumper...
are you gonna get your brackets modified to fit the BL?

I installed the 4crawler body lift on mine this weekend - 1.5". I did not use the radiator brackets. I simply removed the lower shroud and it works fine. For the 1" should be fine. I did not do the bumper brackets either since I am having a new bumper made to fit the lift. On the steering extension, if you do use it, ....., be sure you spray the rag-joint bolts with PB Blaster a few days before you do the install. Other than that, the actual lift was a piece of cake. Good luck, and you will not be disappointed in the 4crawler lift.

im still waiting on my 4crawler lift!! its been over week and a half and they have not even shipped it out yet, how long did you guys wait for yours.....im getting inpatient lol got my full ultimate toytec lift and tires sitting in my apartment lol waiting on body lift so can do full install

I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do about that right now. I'm thinking I'll just drill some new holes in the bumper itself. I have about .5" of room to spare as it is right now, so maybe it'll look ok if I push it all the way up. If I can get away with about .75" or less of gap with the factory bolt holes, I'll probably just leave it be. Anymore than .75" and I'll be modifying it somehow.

Thanks manhunter,
That's exactly what Proudrunner told me he did with his radiator shroud too so I'll be following your guys' advice.

99Yotarunner,
I'm bummed to hear you've waited so long to get it, I hope I don't have to wait that long too. I'm in CA and so is 4crawler (I know because I had to pay 9.25% sales tax dammit) so I'm hoping I'll get it this week. I would give him a call about your package, the website says typical shipping time is 6 - 10 days.

Took about 3 weeks for me to get mine. I ordered the 1.5" which may be the reason on mine - made to order.

Also, when they say the typical shipping time is 6-10 days, that does not mean that they ship it out within 6-10 days of you placing the order, ....., that means 6-1-0 days from the time that THEY ship it to you.

Well I guess that's ok, I've been contemplating the purchase for months now, so another week or 2 won't kill me. One good thing is that once it leaves, the shipping shouldn't take much longer than a day for my order since I'm in the same state.

4Crawler 2" lift

Looks like alot of us are starting to grow up lately. I ordered my 2" BL from 4Crawler. They ship it on Feb.03 and I check the tracking number and its passing into Foreign Customs Canada. Should receive it this week and work on it this week end. I'll post some pics.

Not to start another trend here, but 4crawler also offers lift blocks for seats.

I got my shipment notice today! I should have it this week and I'll put it on maybe as soon as this weekend! I'm guessing the "over 1" lifts take longer, maybe he doesn't sell as many so he makes them to order or something.

rdgt4r, you'll probably get yours soon, it's just a 1" too right?

I'm thinking he keeps 1", 2" and 3" in stock, but the 1.5" was probably made per order. I was concerned 1" would not be enough and that 2" would be too much, so I met in the middle.

what the hell, i have been waiting for like 2 weeks and have not received anything and when i email asking all i recieve is your order is being fabricated, had i nown this i would have just ordered the 2 inch body from toytec and made my own dam bumper brackets.
