Never been myself. It's only open a few weekends a year. There are gobs of excellent and extremely challenging offroad terrain in the area. Most of it is more difficult than what you find elsewhere. However, it is all private, which is fine with me, but you can only go when they are open and must be willing to pay... It's specific to people who are enthusiast and you can tell the difference between the poser jeeps and the ones that actually hit the trails. There is also excellent overlanding down in big bend area, but that is not much closer than driving to NM or CO.Have you done Canyons yet?
Two of my neighbors have jeep Rubicons that have never been in 4wd. I keep telling them to bring them out and see what it is like, but their excuse is always "we have a soccer/lacross tournament that weekend or I'm jarring some artisinal pickles and working on a batch of craft beer )..... Go home back to cali you hippies.
