Icon LCA armour

Got the skids yesterday and they're pretty stout! 3/16" steel, nice welds, nice paint, an aluminum Icon emblem riveted on front and zinc hardware. I doubt the emblem or the paint will last but we'll see I also would have liked stainless hardware but... :shrug:

There were some concerns about drilling out some holes on the LCA. I haven't mounted them yet but took a quick look at the 2 holes (one on each arm) that need to be drilled out to 1/2" and don't see it being an issue.:nono:

duh?

am I missing something here? this 3/16" skid plate is supposed to serve as a mounting point for a secondary shock? It is attached to the stock LCA with four (photos show three?) bolts. I can't speak to the force exerted, but the dual shock solution from TC has the secondary mount incorporated directly into a very beefy looking bolt on lower control arm. And while the TC mount is stout and close to the body of the LCA, the Icon appears to sit precariously on top of that thin looking fin. I don't run my truck hard enough to warrant s dual shock set up, but if I did, I'd be going with Total Chaos.

What they aren't showing is a secondary tab that is a weld on option. This isn't the first time a secondary shock hoop is added onto the factory lower control arm. Total Chaos has a stock weld on option for the 07+ Tundra

Hey LT maybe you can help me out.

I just installed these lower skids plates on my 04 (1 out of 10 difficulty) and I want to add secondary shock. I have the own upgrade kings in from with a result and I would like to add a second shock but don't really want to mix brands by doing the icon with the king. Any suggestions? I was trying to find extented and compressed length from icon bit every time I call they don't know
 
Beware these LCA Skids DO NOT fit our trucks!! I've got a call into Icon will post when I hear from them.
 
All 5th gens have the same lower control arm.

Icon is aware of the issue and had this to say:

"We are currently working on fitment issues with the 5th gen 4Runner lca skids"

Yes all 5th gens, they all have the same lower control arm. :banana:

Let me add, I could have easily modified these to work and I still may but when I checked the clearance of the nut closest to the ball joint I felt that the CV boot would definitely make contact on full droop. I could barely fit my fingertip in between the boot and lower arm when I had it on the lift, I'll go without these rather than tear a boot.

Well actually KDSS TE's have a completely different LCA as it has the sway bar mounts on it rather then the wheel spindle. Pretty sure they would have to design skids specific to them too.

SO the KDSS mount is just welded on to the same arm then :peep:

Anyhow to add, I have extended travel c/o's, standard travel c/o's might have better clearance.
 
Talked to Adrian at Icon today and he relayed they had a 2013 Trail Ed. on their rack now and should have an answer by EOD Friday.
