Icon Stage 1 installed, but...

From behind the vehicle...

Drivers side is Left, Passenger side is Right

Now if you were in europe it would be the other way around, I think.
D-R P-L OMG lets not confuse an already confusing situation :wtf:

Do you want the destructi...er instructions? Doubt the shop read them (seems obvious they didn't read the C/O's) nevermind save them for you. The LR UCA's show how to adjust the caster properly. just shout if you do.

Best of luck in the morning!!

So it seems my brackets are backwards, too... sweet.

It would seem so. Although in the pics it looks as though they are identical and wouldn't matter which way they put them on they must be labeled for a reason.

Again good luck tomorrow :thumb3: And we want pics of your truck ASAP!

They got it all screwed up!

Yes , Left is Drivers side/Right is Pass side as it matters to the way they hold the sway bar bushing on and the reason for the R/L and big arrows pointing forward. The spacer is supposed to relocate the bar forward and should come with 2 Allen head screws that sit down in a recess to make them flush and bolt to the frame first and the aft ones should be seen as in . Then the sway bar bracket bolts to the relocating spacer locating it about 1/2" forward. Looks like they just ran a longer bolt straight thru and didn't relocate the bar forward.

The bigger spacer on the lower shock mounts are supposed to be on the forward side to move the shock away from the sway bar .
Can't tell if they put the spacers on the frame supports or not or the supports will rub the bar too.

This is mostly mechanic common sense stuff so I would have someone competent check over the rest of their work if it were me.No telling what we can't see! How much did they charge you? Can you say .."Compenstaion for damaging your brand new high dollar CO's for their incompetance."

Drivers side looking up pic...You can see the allen headed bolt that sits in a recess in the spacer to make it flush from Icon is starting to show surface rust. The other one is covered up.Then the sway bar bushing bracket bolts to that, thus sway bar relocation spacer name.

Thanks, Harper! Trust me, I plan on having the competence conversation with them. Also plan on mentioning that I'm an active member of T4R and Expedition Portal as well.

This is why this forum kicks ass. Someone comes with an issue and everyone runs out to the trucks to take pics and help out. You guys all are awesome!

Email sent with requested info bro.

If it were me I would stand there and hold their hand while they are fixing it and then, as Harper said, get some compensation from them for damage.

Duc said these guys are Toyota guys? REALLY?? :wow2:

@Harper,

No frame support spacers come with this kit though I have seen them with other manufacturers kits. Are they necessary??

Also correct me if I'm wrong, the frame support spacers allow the splash pan (skid plate) hooks to work when lifted?

Wonder where they put the plate and top nut for initial camber setting on your LR UCA's? Plate should be set to zero and the big nut should be tightened about 1/4"-3/8's in from the whole way outboard(about the size of a pen or pencil or I used a 1/4" punch)
In other words the ball joint can slide in or out with that big nut loose. With it loose ,slide it in about 1/4" and tighten it for the initial camber setting.
Then camber and toe set to near zero and caster close to 4.0 and you'll be golden!

And so are you!

lol....Instant society!
It's so easy to upload pics with 8mp cameras on phones and Drop Box. I can seriously take a pic, instantly upload to Drop Box with 4G and have it in photobucket and online within 30 seconds. Or as I believe your Verizon commercial says, ......so 27 seconds ago. But I have Sprint and the Galaxy SII ......rooted of course with unlimited free hotspot and tethering.

Yes, You'll need spacers(about 1/4" washers) to drop the 2 supports down a little or the drivers side support will rub hard on the sway bar when it flexes at all .Call Icon to send you some as they know about this as I was the first one and worked with them on the WTF problem.

Those 2 high strength tubular steel supports are new to 5th Gens as previous 4th Gens and FJ's didn't have them is the reason they didn't know about them . They help support the front from the frame as they were getting cracked inner fenders and was a problem.

In other words ,the spacers go under the 2 supports to drop them down and then the skid plate bolts up.

Note: All of this is for SR5/Limiteds/non KDSS TE's as the TE's KDSS sways are different.

They are "supposed" to be Toyota guys. I don't know them personally. They are pretty far south from me (50-80mi?). We don't see much of their issues. There are, however, many shops close to home that we "fix". Seems that we're the ones that get all the "leftovers" after some shop has been incompetent and someone needs the installation or repair to be done again, properly.

I will never personally "bash/attack" another shop. And I train my employees to do the same. It doesn't do any good, and it makes you look like a 6 yr old. I tell my team to take the high road and SHOW our clients why we're better. Not TELL them.

But either way, experts or not, one should ALWAYS read instructions.

Lima-Keep us posted on how they handle this situation. Sometimes people make mistakes. How they deal with the aftermath is what will define them and the shop's reputation.

Thanks, Bobby. I noticed their tracking board yesterday and it was all older FJs - mine was the only late model Toyota listed, so I'm sure that's a part of it. I'm currently sitting outside their shop waiting for it to open, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Notice I haven't mentioned the shop yet because you're right: everyone makes mistakes. But, we'll see how they handle the issue for me this morning...

This shop has def had its handful of problems...

I know a guy with a 3rd gen who when they installed his ARB bumper they threw out his old bumper with the front plates on it and by the time the guy came to pick up his truck, his front bumper, and plates had already been taken by the garbage truck! WTF!

Truck is on the lift now. They acknowledged installing the driver's side coilover spacer incorrectly. The sway bar relocation bracket seems to be installed properly, so that may be an issue of the wrong spacer being supplied by icon.

you can even dump photobucket and shave a few more seconds off that! just put the image in your Dropbox's Public folder... Dropbox gives you a link you can embed directly.

sorry to hear about your install problems, limamike. i hope they straighten it out to your satisfaction. i'm sure that in the end the improved ride will be worth it!! :bigok:

Update

So, the tech that did the install acknowledged he made a mistake on the coilover spacer, but they were fighting me on the notion that they could have installed the swaybar relocation brackets incorrectly and that the sway bar U-brackets were backwards. I walked into their shop with the truck on the lift to point-out the "Left is on the right and right is on the left" U-bracket issue since they didn't understand what I was talking about. The response I got was, "They're identical, so it doesn't matter." I simply pointed-out to them that they were marked LEFT and RIGHT with arrows for a reason, so they agreed to swap them back. After they put everything back on I checked the clearance outside the shop and I could fit my hand between the sway bar and the coilover on both sides. I did a couple of laps in the shopping center and ran over a few speed bumps to listen for clanging or rubbing - nothing. Satisfied that they had fixed the issue I drove the ~50 miles back to work and parked it in the work parking garage.

Prior to walking into the office I checked the clearance again just to see if anything had shifted, and to my surprise I could no longer fit my hand between the sway bar and coilover on the driver's side - I couldn't even fit my pinky finger. The gap had closed itself, but there was still a little bit of clearance. Went to work for the balance of the day, then came out to drive home and noticed some slight clanking on my way out. So, it looks like it hasn't been rectified. :redbrick:

Called Bobby on the way home, and since I was going to his shop tomorrow anyway, he's going to take a look at it for me and see what he can fix.

Harper - when the truck was up on the lift I was able to see that they did install the spacer kit with the allen bolts and it was offset just like yours (without about the same amount showing).

My plan: have Bobby fix it then go after the other shop for what Bobby rightfully charges me to make it right.

Aside from these issues I love the suspension. It no longer bounces around like a manic puppy when cornering, it doesn't dive on the highway if I downshift or brake, and it actually feels like it's got more off-the-line starting "pep" with the stiffer suspension. Just in trying to get these issues rectified I've easily got 200 miles on it already, and I really do love it.

Interesting thing: my speedometer is dead-on with the 285s installed. I've verified it with GPS and from the full range (0-75 MPH) it's exactly accurate which surprised the hell out of me. Although, when I had 265s installed my 4Runner speedometer was about 3 MPH liberal compared to GPS. MPG loss seems somewhere in the range of 3 MPG, but that's using the 4Runner computer. I won't have actual data for another 400 miles or so.

I guess next is to see if they have the spacers so the sway bar doesn't hit/rub the drivers side support making noise. Mine made some awful grinding type noise when it rubbed before I figured it out. Ran without my sway bar on for the longest time before I put spacers on.

Also check to see if the LR UCA's are on the 0(zero) setting and in the right amount or they can contact the springs and make awful noises if set wrong.

Initial setting at Zero and in about 1/4"
