Icon Stage 1 installed, but...

Mike, I have been following this thread with interest. I have not posted before as I had nothing to add that was not covered by Harper and others. I am glad Ducmonsta's shop had the expertise and professionalism to fix the mistakes made by the other shop. The truck looks good and I'm sure you can drive with confidence now. Great job Ducmonsta and great job to all the other members that took the time to help a fellow 4Runner owner out!
 
Great to hear it's sorted out! Looks like the other shop is full of a bunch of yahoo's.

I can tell you guys personally, I have also met Bobby(Duc) and been to his shop. He is an awesome, stand-up guy and would give you the shirt off his back (well, at least the rack!).

The mechanic's at his shop don't have that "we know everything and your an idiot" attitude that a lot of shops do. This thread is proof!

Great job Duc! I need to get up there so you can see the wonderful clusterf*k of a welding job they did on my magnaflow. I think the guy closed his eyes the entire time... A repair like yours is in order!

DOH!!! Sorry, lima. I was so busy trying to get you outta there as soon as I could. I know we're kinda out of the way. I can hold them until the Customer App. party if you want. I know space may be a little tight for ya.

Lima, it was a pleasure solving the problems for you. I'm sorry we had to meet under these circumstances.

I/we really appreciate all the accolades. But what we did for Lima is nothing different than what any other shop should do. Honestly, we've made mistakes too. I always hope that I have the opportunity to address it. But, sometimes you're either not given the chance or it's just not convenient enough for the client to bring it back (in this case). But it sounds like the "other" shop will be addressing Lima's situation accordingly (hopefully). I hope the "other" shop appreciates how laid back Lima's been in this situation. Like he said, he could easily come back at them with the damages done to the coil over and sway bar.

Like I mentioned to Lima, we were probably starting to get knit picky about all the things that were wrong. Once you find something wrong, you can't help but start looking at everything else (ie. rear shock nuts).

Lima, thank you very much for allow us the opportunity to "repair" your 4R (thanks for not mentioning the 6+ hours of hanging out with it!)

Relieved that everything got worked out. Now you can just enjoy the truck! Looking at LimaMike's truck height vs mine, looks like I need to pay Ducmonsta a visit soon to add a little preload to my front C/Os and gain back the ~1/2'' or so of lift I've lost as the suspension has settled with the weight of the bumper/winch.
 
well, now i know where i'm going when i get my truck worked on..i'm glad limamike got his truck corrected.

At the very least, a lot of us on the east coast were able to see some problems that Ducmonsta and his boys were able to fix. I have confidence and know that Ducmonsta and his shop knows their stuff. I know they have seen several 5th gens in their shop, and if they don't know how to do an install, they will read and research and ask. So that makes me; as a future customer happy.

Ducmonsta i want change the exhaust to the right side and maybe add a different muffler or something. Your shop does welding is that right?

Funny you say that. I used to live in the People's Republic. I actually was going to work for Johns 4x4 but met the guys and really didn't like the "feeling" I got. I was just out there to do some riding in Breck and Vail. Good spring riding!

Ok so now that it is finally installed....

What were the final measurements for lift?

And again, overall, this was a good example of why only one change should be made at a time. Just think about trying to sort this yourself w/o professional help. Or trying to figure out if the problem(s) were the wheels, tires, or specific individual suspension components. It would be especially difficult to diagnose if the problem had been a vibration.

Okay, thanks buddy. I'm excited. Now i need to research a little more and see if i want a full on new muffler, or just the tip, or a pipe, etc, etc.

Do you have a contact that could powder coat the pipe or tip if i went that route?

Don't worry about the cowboys jersey, I'm born and raised in Dallas(still have family there too) So..i'm legit. and, I visit my family in Texas every July 4th!
 
Truck looks great limamike! It's nice to see a BP with a good ICON suspension (gives me an idea of what mine will look like soon!).

Wow with all this well-deserved publicity Duc's shop is going to be booked out a year in advance! Better make an appointment to get you shrockworks bumper installed the day you place the order! I am going to make sure I get on your guys list for an install as soon as I have all the parts!

Not to derail here... but where is the "best" off-road outfit(s) around Boulder?

I was looking at John's 4x4 to install a lift but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Finding a good shop to do custom work on 4X4s is hard, as this thread has proven.

The best suggestion for anyone, not just near Boulder, is to get in with a local club and ask around. 4X4 mods require a mechanic that not only understands factory stuff but customizations. To that add the difference between old school (no or minimal ECUs) vs. new school where everything is computer controlled and varies from make to make. All of a sudeen your starting to get fairly specialized.

I do most of my own work (with the help of a friend that is an ASE mechanic and a genius at custom fabricating 4X4 stuff). The only thing I plan on having done by a shop is adding an ARB front locker (if I go with it) and haven't found one that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling yet. Even then, I'll install the compressor and just have the shop work on the pumpkin.

So, I guess I'm looking for a good shop in the Boulder area as well.
 
Just a quick update from my side:

The original shop called and emailed me today to rectify the issue. I spoke to the GM for a few minutes and he had no issues refunding me for the work that Ducmonsta's shop to do the repairs. He acknowledged that the install didn't get the proper quality assurance before it was let out the door. Incidentally, he came across this thread and read through all of the issues and actually agreed with some of the points made here about the tech not asking for help and proceeding anyway. As soon as I hung-up the phone with him I had a notice in my email of a refund that had been issued to my debit card. Regardless, it looks like it's all sorted for now! Sway bar still hasn't moved. I've got an 800 mile trip to do this weekend with some very light off-roading planned, so I'll let you guys know if anything changes.

Mick - I'll take measurements for you this evening before I hit the road if I can. Roger on the point of changing everything at once, but I don't think my issues were in any way shape or form related to that.
